Kees Schmalz

During the early years of his career, Kees transitioned from a technical engineering role to a more commercial and general management career by joining AkzoNobel, the Dutch publicly owned chemicals and coatings multinational. As he climbed the ranks, he and his family had the opportunity to live in Singapore and Sweden, broadening his international experience. Motivated by his curiosity for private equity-owned organisations and personal development, he later joined Flint Group, a world leader in ink and press room chemicals.
Kees has held various positions, including regional and global commercial unit management, business development, restructuring, and digital transformation roles.
After a twenty-year-long career in the global chemical and coatings industries, he started his own executive search boutique firm. With his extensive experience leading global, multinational teams and recruiting individual team members, he has become a valuable addition to the skilled and experienced Amsterdam team.
At Alexander Hughes, he will primarily be responsible for the Chemicals, Life Sciences, Infrastructures, Engineering, Technology, Utilities and Services, and Clean Technology sectors.
Kees is a Delft University of Technology graduate majoring in Materials Science and Engineering, specialising in electrochemistry or corrosion technology.
Outside of work, Kees is an avid sportsman. You will find him running with his dog, racing his bike with friends, or working out at the gym in his free time. Although officially retired from his beloved rugby, he occasionally participates in veteran’s games.
Being a native Dutch speaker, Kees also has a professional command of English.
