Came | Sweeney Finds CEO for Sterilis
November 21, 2017 – Executive search firm Came | Sweeney has placed Michael K. McGarrity as chief executive officer of Sterilis LLC. He replaces Bob Winskowicz who stepped down last month and remains on the company’s board of directors. Managing partners Peter Sweeney and Paul Came led the assignment.
“The board of Sterilis had set a high bar for the new CEO they were seeking,” said Mr. Came. “They wanted a proven general manager who had demonstrated winning experience in the environments of both large and small biomedical companies, was successful at raising capital, growing the company and increasing its value, and successfully exiting at an attractive multiple. Mr. McGarrity had accomplished this and done so very well.”
Proven Leader
Mr. McGarrity brings to Sterilis extensive operational and strategic experience in the healthcare, medical devices and diagnostics, and biotech industries. Most recently he was with Nanosphere, a nanotechnology-based molecular diagnostics company, where he served as vice president before being named CEO in 2013. In that job, he led an operational and strategic turnaround that resulted in the company’s sale to Luminex in 2016.
Prior to Nanosphere, Mr. McGarrity spent 13 years at Stryker Corporation in sales, marketing and operations. He led Stryker into markets such as post-operative pain management, surgical fluid waste management and interventional pain management. He also had executive general management responsibility for a newly created business unit that focused on interventional spine pain management.

Sterilis has developed a patented technology that converts regulated medical waste into harmless, confetti-like material that can be discarded with the regular trash. Its devices are American-made in Springfield, MA, and are in use at customer sites in healthcare, public safety (fire and police departments) and aviation.
