Ellen Meyer

Ellen Meyer joined AGB Search in 2017. Ms. Meyer is a seasoned higher education administrator, having spent 34 years in leadership roles at art and design institutions.

Most recently, she has provided executive search services for the following institutions:

  • Kent State University (OH) – Director of the School of Music; Director of the Fashion School
  • Montana State University – Executive Director of the Museum of the Rockies (Smithsonian Affiliate)
  • Columbus State University (GA) – Dean of the College of the Arts
  • Delaware College of Art and Design – President

Throughout her career Ms. Meyer has supported interdisciplinary curriculum development, technological innovation, executive and faculty recruitment and management, strategic planning and partnerships, fundraising, financial planning and oversight, exhibitions, facilities design and construction, and trustee and community relations.

From 2008 to 2015, Ms. Meyer served as the President of Watkins College of Art in Nashville, where she has been appointed President Emerita. Previously, Ms. Meyer served for 14 years as President of Atlanta College of Art (Woodruff Arts Center). She was also Director of Continuing Education and Special Programs at Rhode Island School of Design, and Vice President of Marketing and Extension at Minneapolis College of Art and Design.

As well, she was the director of the keystone education program at the National Building Museum, served as a researcher and lecturer at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Archives of American Art, and as the founding director of an inner-city ceramics program for the National Park Service, along with engagements as a faculty member in art history and ceramics and as a college gallery director.

Ms. Meyer has also initiated and fostered strategic partnerships with music entities and educational institutions, such as Belmont University’s Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business, Warner Music Nashville, New Music America, and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

She has served as Chair of the Board of the Atlanta Regional Council for Higher Education; on the Commission on Accreditation for the National Association of Schools of Art and Design; as President of the Mid-America College Art Association; on the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce’s technology steering committee; and on the boards of the National Black Arts Festival, Midtown Alliance (Atlanta), Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design, and John C. Campbell Folk School, among others.

Ms. Meyer holds both Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in art history and theory from The George Washington University (Washington, D.C.). She has also completed advanced management work in Georgia Tech’s Executive Education Program and graduate studies in ceramics at Antioch University. She is an alumna of Leadership Atlanta, Leadership Music, Leadership Nashville, and the University of Minnesota’s Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, Leadership in Public Policy program.
