HIEC Lands Leader to Head New Vienna Office
June 6, 2019 – Global executive search firm H.I. Executive Consulting (HIEC) has hired Michael Baumann as managing partner of its new office in Vienna, Austria. The location is expected to strengthen HIEC’s established presence in Europe, and allow the firm to better support its global and local clients.
Mr. Baumann brings significant search experience to the firm, having worked with both public and private equity-backed clients across technology, telecommunication and media sectors, supporting their C-level placement needs. He has also worked extensively with cross-sector clients on supporting their digitalization strategies through placing C-level leaders capable of driving the required digital transformation.
Previously, Mr. Baumann was with Amrop, a global executive search firm, where he was a member of the global digital practice group. Before that, at the Ministry of Defense of Austria, he spearheaded the management recruitment function for national and international missions as well as designed and implemented their assessment centers.
“It is a pleasure to be joining the global team of HIEC and to be heading up yet another market expansion by opening our new office in Vienna, Austria,” said Mr. Baumann. “HIEC has built an outstanding track record and brand recognition across Europe, as well as globally, since its establishment over a decade ago. Our physical presence in Austria will further strengthen our capabilities to provide best in class search services to clients with a focus on German speaking countries.”
A Growing Presence
The Austrian office will focus on hiring cross-sector, digital transformational leaders. The Vienna location is the 13th addition to HIEC’s growing global presence. The company recently announced the opening of its Shanghai office, its third location in the Asia-Pacific region.
HIEC is a leading global executive search firm focused on hiring board, CEO and senior-level executives globally. The firm focuses on hiring transformational leaders across the sectors it serves – digital and technology, financial services and real estate, industrial and automotive, consumer, retail and leisure, and business and professional services.
Last month, HIEC announced a strategic partnership with Teamscope, an AI-driven talent analytics platform designed to help companies build high-performing leadership teams.
The partnership gives HIEC an innovative tool to deliver more data-driven hiring results for its corporate and private equity clients, informing the way companies identify the right leaders, reducing unconscious bias in the hiring process, and leading to higher performing organizations, said the search firm.
Core Values
“Teamscope is one of the most innovative executive assessment products that we have seen on the market,” said Tim Robson, a global managing partner at HIEC. “Its sophisticated data science built into a simple and intuitive digital user interface underpins the art of world-class executive search. Teamscope is exactly what was missing in the market at executive levels and is going to make a significant difference in the selection, onboarding and leadership development process for our clients.”

HIEC’s global experience in executive search has proven that building high-performing leadership teams not only requires identifying the necessary functional skill-sets, but also core values and behavioral traits that complement the team, said the search firm. Over 70 percent of recently appointed C-suite leaders struggle to culturally adapt, if at all, to their new employers, according to McKinsey & Company. Teamscope’s approach to behavioral analytics enables clients to match the executives with the core values of the existing leadership team so they can quickly assimilate and perform at their best.
Teamscope, based in London, is an AI-driven executive talent analytics platform to enable world-class executive search. The platform is designed to help companies build high-performing leadership teams through evaluating candidates’ fit with the existent executive team in a more objective, data-driven manner.
A Rebranding
Earlier this year, international offices of global executive search and advisory firm Heads! International rebranded to become HIEC.
Following a decade of international growth, the brand refresh is a reflection of HIEC’s business, and the positioning achieved during this time, said the firm. Under the updated name, HIEC said it would continue its commitment to leverage its global delivery model to serve its investor-backed and Fortune 500 clients around the globe.
The rebranding came on the heels of H.I. Executive Consulting’s announcement that Tim Robson, a global managing partner, had relocated to the firm’s New York City location to spearhead U.S. strategic growth initiatives and further the firm’s global service delivery model.
