SPMB, a technology and sustainability-focused search firm serving Silicon Valley, recruits transformational leaders into growth-oriented companies. While the firm expects the earlier stage, startup landscape to flatten out by 2017, it is looking to deepen its relationships with consumer technology and retail companies, and growing its reach into the ever-expanding digital markets sector.

Last year, SPMB grew its revenues 29 percent, from $18.3 million to $23.6 million, climbing into 14th position on Hunt Scanlon Media’s Top 50 search firm list. The firm now has 20 consultants based in three offices.

Over the past year, SPMB filled executive roles for leading technology companies, including chief product officer for Comcast. Mike Doonan, a partner with SPMB, led that assignment, recruiting Chris Satchell into the post from Nike. SPMB also recruited Marty Reaume as chief people officer to FitBit, the maker of wearable health trackers that has attracted users eager to document and quantify growing aspects of their health.

According to recruiters, today’s chief product officer is responsible for all product-related matters. The post typically includes product conception and development, production, innovation, and project & product management. In many IT / telecommunications companies, the position includes release management and production. Chief product officers generally work on product strategy based on goals set by the CEO and / or board members. A recent search on LinkedIn of the title generated more than 28,000 results.
