July 27, 2018 – The Onstott Group, a Wellesley, MA-based search firm, has placed Micah Mitchell as chief commercial officer of Myomo Inc., a NYSE-traded wearable medical robotics company located in Cambridge, MA.
The addition of the newly created CCO role reflects Myomo’s transition from a controlled introduction of its proprietary MyoPro product line to expansion of its sales, marketing and distribution activities to address the large unmet need of expanded mobility for individuals with arm and hand paralysis, said the company. In his new role, Mr. Mitchell will grow Myomo’s network of MyoPro Centers of Excellence, expand its field staff of business development and clinical professionals, and generate demand for its product line among patients, physicians and therapists.
“Now that we have embarked on scaling up our commercial operations to bring the MyoPro to the many people who could benefit from this life-changing product line, we are pleased to have an executive of Micah’s stature join our senior management team,” said Paul Gudonis, CEO. “He has a track record of growing revenues, and he will collaborate with our chief marketing officer, chief medical officer and operations management to develop and implement programs that provide the MyoPro to a greater number of patients through our clinical channel partners.”
Mr. Mitchell has extensive experience growing revenues for companies in the durable medical equipment industry, including those that provide customized wheelchair and mobility solutions to people with paralysis from spinal cord injuries and other neurological conditions, said the company. He has served in sales management and executive roles at Invacare, Alliance Seating and Mobility, and Apria Healthcare Group, where he expanded their field sales organizations, conducted direct-to-consumer marketing campaigns and obtained reimbursement for their products to increase patient access to the technology.

Based in the Boston area, with offices in Greenwich and Houston, the firm has filled senior-level roles for an array of clients, including American Science & Engineering, MorphoTrust USA, Dyn, Paytronix Systems, Valore, Vicon Industries, Demandware, Welch’s, Bose Corp. and Direct Energy, among others.
Chief Commercial Officer Recruiting
The CCO is essentially responsible for the commercial strategy and the development of an organization. The role typically involves activities relating to marketing, sales, product development and customer service to drive business growth and market share. As a corporate officer, the CCO generally reports directly to the CEO and is charged with ensuring the integrated commercial success of an organization. The role typically combines technical knowledge of the relevant field with strong marketing and business development skills.
A CCO in large part takes ownership of the customer and the customer interface with the product or service offering, making sure that all functions of the organization are aligned to meet its strategic commercial objectives, said the search firm. This means that the role is closely linked to the organization’s strategic management function, in drafting, implementing and evaluating cross-functional decisions that enable an organization to achieve its long-term objectives.
A handful of companies have turned to executive search firms in recent months to find new chief commercial officers. Here is a sampling from the Hunt Scanlon Media archives:
BSG Team Ventures placed Don Kelly as chief commercial officer of Onyx CenterSource in Dallas. Managing director and co-founder Clark Waterfall led the assignment. As CCO, Mr. Kelly will be responsible for overseeing the company’s go-to-market strategy, identifying growth opportunities and ensuring the integrated commercial success of the organization.
Kincannon & Reed recruited Manoj Sahoo as chief commercial officer of Calyxt Inc. He will work closely as part of Calyxt’s executive team to build a commercial partnership network, execute a go-to-market plan for the company’s products and ensure Calyxt’s integrated commercial success moving forward.
Toft Group placed Mark R. Willig as chief commercial officer of Rosetta Genomics Ltd. In this newly created position, he is responsible for sales, marketing and market access for Rosetta Genomics’ entire portfolio of high-value diagnostic assays. Most recently, Mr. Willig served as senior vice president of sales for CardioDx Inc.
