December 16, 2019 – Many companies with global strategies have been looking to Africa recently as the new frontier for business. Improved political environments, above average growth and the rich opportunities waiting in a continent that essentially has to start everything from scratch are raising considerable interest.
Recently, executive search network IMSA Search Global Partners added Kenya-headquartered executive search firm By Appointment Africa as its newest member firm.
By Appointment Africa is a bespoke recruitment firm, specializing in the recruitment of mid to senior managers and C-suite executives. The firm will represent IMSA Search operations in East Africa, supplying the network with its unique experience and market knowledge. General manager Cecilia Nyawira leads the search firm.
“We were flattered when IMSA Global Search Partners, who boast of over 25 member partners, came knocking at our door,” said Ms. Nyawira. “The international reach for our clients and candidates as well as sharing recruitment ideas and best practices appealed to us. However, what really attracted us was that we share similar values and principles such as a focus on value addition for our clients, upholding integrity and ensuring placements are done in an ethical and professional manner.”
When asked about the current market in East Africa, Ms. Nyawira said that the “fintech and technology are booming in Kenya, with products such as M-Pesa launched by our local MNO – Safaricom, taking the world by storm. The majority of the population are tech savvy, powered by a good and affordable internet connection throughout the country.”
Despite this, she said, “the unemployment rate is regrettably high due to limited employment opportunities. However, this is set to change, as Kenya is becoming the hub for international organizations setting up in East Africa. The fact that Kenyans are hospitable and enhance a vibrant social life makes it very easy to work in Kenya.”
IMSA Search Global Partners is a leading international executive search network with 22 member countries and 47 offices across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Americas. Members of the IMSA International Executive Search network are all boutique search firms.
IMSA recently expanded in Norway with the additions of Search House, based in Trondheim, and A’HEAD, which operates in Stavanger and Oslo. Search House is a Norwegian consulting company specialized in executive search, recruitment and management consulting. The firm has experience in recruitment and selection of executives, managers and specialists to the private and public sectors. Search House was established in 2012. A’HEAD, a Nordic executive search and management consulting company, has been delivering recruitment solutions and practices for its clients since 2003.
The organization also recently appointed Peter Fischer as chief financial officer replacing Wolfgang Kasper who announced that he was stepping down from the role during the IMSA spring meeting in Italy. Mr. Fischer’s main areas of expertise are technology, financial services and corporate management.
Recruiter Rankings: Global 30
This year Hunt Scanlon Media reviewed an exhaustive list of global recruiting providers and culled it down to the top 30 global talent providers that now dominate the recruiting business worldwide.
“I am honored that our president, Monika Ciesielska, has asked me to serve our organization and support IMSA Search as the new CFO,” said Mr. Fischer. “I see a huge opportunity to introduce IMSA Search into new markets, expanding its client base. This the goal we hope to reach in the near future.”
In addition, IMSA added New York City-headquartered executive search firm Howard-Sloan Search as a member. Howard-Sloan is led by CEO Mitchell Berger. He joined the company in 1983 and assumed the top role in 1991.
