November 28, 2023 – Following an extensive national search that included a highly competitive candidate pool from across the country, Harris Search Associates has placed Steven Halm as founding Dean of the Xavier University proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine, which slated to become the nation’s first Jesuit osteopathic medicine school opening its doors to students in 2027. “Xavier is gaining a proven leader, dedicated teacher and student-centered professional who has demonstrated exceptional innovation throughout his career,” said Colleen Hanycz, president of Xavier University. “Dr. Halm’s deep understanding of the complexities of medical education, the opportunities that this college will present for our region and in how these opportunities align with our Jesuit Catholic mission and identity make him an excellent choice to head our College of Osteopathic Medicine. “Our mission of offering a premier education for osteopathic medicine students begins with bringing in the right faculty and staff to guide those students,” said Rachel Chrastil, provost and chief academic officer. “With today’s announcement, we are off to a tremendous start. Dr. Halm’s motivations for becoming a physician and an educator align perfectly with Xavier’s value of caring for the whole person. He is the right person to lead this effort as we prepare to provide students with the wrap-around services and world-class care that will help them become great physicians.”
