DHR International Adds Partner to Financial Officer Practice

June 29, 2020 – Chicago-based search firm DHR International has expanded with the addition of Rob Tillman as managing partner of its global financial officer practice. He will also serve as a key leader in the firm’s private equity and advanced technology practices and will work closely with DHR’s advisory services team, Elevate Partners.

Mr. Tillman has served with three of the largest executive search firms and led two recruiting boutiques. He is specialized in recruiting C-level executives, having conducted more than 300 chief financial officers and chief information officers over three decades, according to the firm.

“As leaders face tremendous challenges during these difficult times, joining DHR will allow me to do more for my clients with greater resources, a team of like-minded partners and a vibrant network in a global firm,” said Mr. Tillman. “Executive search is fundamentally an entrepreneurial and creative business, and DHR strikes the right balance of providing the structure and resources to support its partners while fostering the entrepreneurial spirit and flexibility I believe is central to doing great work.”

Prior to joining DHR, Mr. Tillman founded and served as president of TillmanCarlson, an executive search boutique. Over 17 years, the firm recruited more than 400 leaders, and Mr. Tillman personally recruited over 200 chief financial officers and chief information officers. In addition, Mr. Tillman developed a practical approach to integrate assessment and coaching into every search, said DHR.

Deep Experience

Mr. Tillman began his career in search with Russell Reynolds Associates in Chicago. He then joined former colleagues as managing partner of Crist Partners, later sold to Korn Ferry. Mr. Tillman also worked in public accounting, having earned bachelor’s degree in accounting at the University of Illinois, and he completed his certification as an executive coach at the Hudson Institute.

Since 1989, DHR International has been a leading, privately held provider of executive search solutions with more than 50 wholly-owned offices spanning the globe. DHR’s consultants specialize in all industries and functions, providing senior-level executive search, management assessment and succession planning services tailored to the qualities and specifications of its client base.

DHR’s global financial officer practice assists public and private companies in the recruitment of financial executives with the right combination of expertise, functional skills, leadership and personal style – ensuring alignment with each organization’s unique culture. DHR conducts hundreds of assignments annually at the CFO level and across all finance disciplines, including: chief financial officer, treasury, chief accounting officer, division finance leader, financial planning and analysis, investor relations, mergers and acquisitions, internal audit and tax.

A Proven Record

Earlier this year, DHR International added John Hesse as managing partner focusing in corporate affairs. DHR said that the practice will “focus on identifying skilled communications professionals who anticipate challenges and employ smart, strategic plans to advance the mission of clients by communicating with, engaging, influencing and managing external audiences.”

Mr. Hesse is a former practitioner with a proven record of shaping public policy proactively in order to enhance reputations, open markets, create business opportunities, and defend against punitive legislation and regulatory initiatives. He brings a thorough understanding of the multi-faceted external communications function and deep connections to the highest skilled communicators and budding talent around the world.

Prior to joining DHR, Mr. Hesse served as the government and public affairs practice leader for The McCormick Group, working on retained searches for lobbyists, government relations and public affairs professionals for corporations, associations, law firms and consulting firms, as well as state, federal and international government affairs opportunities. He also provided confidential candidate representation to lawyers, lobbyists and public affairs professionals seeking new roles. A key aspect of his work involved representing senior government officials and legislative staff looking to transition to the private sector.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Hesse managed his own consulting firm, CERO Strategies, as the chief legal officer and vice president of government and public affairs at SOHO Resource Group Inc. and as a senior attorney and director of government relations for Direct Selling Association.
