The Moran Company Tapped to Find Chief Program Officer for Jewish Vocational Service of Kansas City
August 11, 2023 – The Moran Company, an executive recruitment firm that specializes in the non-profit sector, has been enlisted to find a chief program officer for the Jewish Vocational Service of Kansas City (JVS) in Missouri. Leading the assignment is senior search consultant Jane Lampo.
A member of the leadership team reporting to the executive director, the chief program officer will be expected to assist in the development of the strategic vision for JVS, said The Moran Company. Working collaboratively with leadership, board, and staff, this leader will help implement the strategic plan.
The chief program officer is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality client services in 11 different programs. Responsibilities include program delivery, staff management, development and training, data management and outcomes measurement, and board relations. Direct reports to the chief program officer include the director of community integration, director of health and wellness, the manager of immigration legal services, and the manager of language and cultural services.
Key Responsibilities
The chief program officer will be charged with ensuring that all program activities operate consistently and within the mission and values of the organization, said the search firm. Assisting the grant manager in developing and reviewing grant proposals is critical to the role.
In terms of staff management, the chief program officer must collaborate with the HR manager to provide orientation and training of all staff members. Implementing a professional development program to create an environment of continuous learning is also essential. The leader must also reinforce a sense of accountability among team members as well as highlight consistent and shared individual and organizational performances.

A bachelor’s degree is required for this role; a master’s degree in social work, counseling, education, non-profit management. or related fields is preferred. Candidates should have a passion for, and knowledge about, the non-profit sector, in particular agencies that work with vulnerable populations.
Required Experience
JVS asks that prospects have at least three years’ experience in supervising others, preferably those in management roles; at least five years’ experience working with vulnerable populations, preferably refugees and immigrants; and at least two years’ experience in direct service/case management.
Candidates should have experience in change management and a desire to assist in helping grow an organization, said The Moran Company. The ability to manage multiple complex and collaborative projects simultaneously is integral to the role. A demonstrated commitment to racial justice, equity, and inclusion is essential.
The Moran Company Places CEO for Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement
The Moran Company has helped to place Claas Ehlers as chief executive officer, a newly created role, for the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement (CLM) in Newtown, CT. The non-profit works to teach social and emotional learning. Scarlett Lewis, who founded the organization shortly after her six-year-old son, Jesse, was murdered during the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012, has stepped down from the top leadership role and continues to serve as chief movement officer. Senior search consultant Gretchen Kunkel led the assignment for the search firm. Filling the CEO role was a critical step in CLM’s plans to increase impact, said the Moran Company. Mr. Ehlers was selected after an extensive national search. He previously served as CEO of Family Promise, a national federated non-profit addressing family homelessness.
Jewish Vocational Service was established in 1949 to help Holocaust survivors, refugees, and those returning from WWII. Since that time, JVS has invested in individuals and families, helping them build better lives in the U.S. JVS is one of the major refugee resettlement organizations in the Kansas City metropolitan area. In 2023, JVS will serve thousands of people and welcome almost 400 refugees to the Kansas City area in addition to over 700 other immigrants. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina, a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, and an doctor of education degree in higher administration with a focus on philanthropy from the University of Kansas.
