DHR Global Tapped by Texas Southern to Lead Men’s Basketball Head Coach Search

June 9, 2026 – Talent advisory firm DHR Global has been retained by Texas Southern to lead in its search for a new men’s head basketball coach. DHR emerged from what the university described as a competitive review process. The firm will help the school build and vet a broad pool of candidates capable of sustaining a program that ranks among the conference’s modern standard-bearers.

The search process is now actively underway. To protect the integrity of the search and ensure the institution attracts the strongest possible pool of candidates, Texas Southern will provide no further comment on the process until a sole finalist is identified.

The agreement brings the program a step closer to filling the coaching vacancy left by Johnny Jones, while interim head coach Shyrone Chatman continues to lead the team during the transition.

The Texas Southern University men’s basketball program, known as the Tigers, competes in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and is one of the most successful programs in the league. Based in Houston, the Tigers have built a reputation for consistent postseason appearances, winning multiple SWAC regular-season and tournament championships while earning several NCAA Tournament berths. It is one of the premier basketball programs among Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

DHR’s sports practice is a global specialty for the firm with capabilities on six continents across all sports-related organizations. These range from Fortune 500 companies and professional sports teams to public and private university athletics. The firm has overseen searches for the University of Pittsburgh, Colorado State University, Fresno State University, San Jose State, Kansas, Syracuse, and Quinnipiac University, among others.
