Nexus Search Partners Recruits CEO for the YMCA of Greater Charlotte

November 1, 2023 – Nexus Search Partners, an executive search and advisory firm in Charlotte, NC, has assisted in the recruitment of Suehila Glass as the first female president and CEO for the YMCA of Greater Charlotte. She succeeds Stan Law, who retired earlier this year. “Throughout our partnership with the YMCA of Greater Charlotte, the Nexus team focused on locating value-aligned candidates that could further the organization’s community-oriented mission,” the search firm said. “Our comprehensive approach began with in-depth assessments, including quantitative and qualitative research methods with relevant stakeholders. Results from surveys and focus groups paved the way for our team to develop a skills matrix to evaluate qualified CEO candidates. Sue Glass embodied all of the YMCA’s competencies, making her the clear frontrunner.”

“As we celebrate and reflect upon 150 years of serving the community next year, we must look ahead to how we’re going to transform to serve our rapidly growing and evolving community in the years ahead,” said Charles Bowman, board chair for the YMCA of Greater Charlotte. “Sue’s background and skill set represent exactly what we were looking for in the Y’s next leader. I’m confident that she is the best person to take on this exciting and challenging role, and to lead the Y through this transformational phase and into a bright future.”

Ms. Glass currently serves as president and CEO of the YMCA of Metropolitan Denver. In this role, she shaped a strategic roadmap that served as the organization’s guide throughout the pandemic, implementing new operating and membership models, initiating a property redevelopment strategy to optimize the organization’s real estate footprint, launching culture-improving initiatives for staff, and putting in place efforts designed to amplify member satisfaction and retention. Prior to that, Ms. Glass spent more than 20 years in roles of increasing scope and responsibility with the American Diabetes Association, ending her tenure there as a senior vice president with oversight of 49 nationwide field offices, 500 employees and a $125 million budget. Ms. Glass holds an organizational leadership certification from YMCA of the USA (YUSA) and sits on YUSA’s national advisory board for Boys and Young Men of Color.

“I’ve been looking closely at the YMCA of Greater Charlotte’s past successes, alongside its current challenges and opportunities,” said Ms. Glass. “I’m excited to join the organization at such a pivotal point in its history, and look forward to working with the team, volunteers, members and community partners to maximize the Y’s impact in greater Charlotte.”

For Thaddeus Jones, in-depth cultural assessments, transparency and accountability, diverse candidate slates, and SVP+ executive coaching are central to serving his clients. He started his firm wanting to fill the gaps that he saw in executive search when he himself was an HR leader.

Founder Thaddeus Jones has spent nearly two decades leading human resources talent management teams for some of the world’s largest companies, including Amazon, Lowe’s Home Improvement, and Target. He most recently served as executive vice president and chief talent officer for Red Ventures, a multi-billion dollar operating private equity company with more than 21 companies in its portfolio. It is also one of the largest digital media companies in the U.S.

Recent CHRO Search

Nexus Search Partners recently assisted in the recruitment of Tim Clinkenbeard as the new CHRO for Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Co. “Tim brings a wealth of human resources experience to us from his previous employment, most recently at Lowe’s Home Improvement,” said Hooper Hardison, CEO of Charlotte Pipe. “Tim will collaborate with our officer group and divisional human resource departments to better align our investments in associates with our corporate strategy. Tim’s more than 20 years of HR experience and record of success makes him ideal for this senior role at the company.”
