HARTZ Search Helps Fill CFO and CEO Roles for Roper St. Francis Healthcare

October 3, 2024 – After extensive nationwide searches, Charlotte, NC-based HARTZ Search has recently helped to recruitment of Rebecca Tucker and Joseph DeLeon as the CFO and CEO, respectively of Roper St. Francis Healthcare in Charleston, SC. “Joseph is a veteran in every sense of the word as he has excelled in healthcare management since 1991 and served our country as a former captain in the United States Air Force Medical Services Corps,” said Edward McKelvey, chairman of the Roper St. Francis Healthcare board of directors. “We are thrilled to choose Joseph to further elevate our stellar reputation and expand access to quality healthcare while carrying out our mission of ‘healing all people with compassion, faith and excellence.’”

Mr. DeLeon brings more than 29 years of senior leadership experience in operating a hospital, maintaining strong finances and expanding access for patients. He most recently served as president of Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth, an 851-bed magnet-designated, full-service hospital that serves North Texas with a Level I Trauma Center.

Mr. DeLeon first joined Texas Health Resources in 2005 as vice president of professional services and business development at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth, where he was responsible for all ancillary functions, strategic planning and business development activities for the hospital. In January 2013, he was named president of Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest Fort Worth. Under his leadership, that hospital achieved Truven 100 Top Hospital recognition two years in a row and the Pinnacle of Excellence Award for Patient Experience from Press Ganey. The Texas Health Southwest leadership team also worked to bring the hospital Texas Health Clearfork online and become a joint replacement destination. Mr. DeLeon returned to Texas Health Fort Worth as president in 2018.

Ms. Tucker is a seasoned CFO. Most recently, she was the market chief financial officer and vice president of finance for Ascension Health in Tulsa, OK. With Ascension she held operational and financial oversight of day-to-day multiple-site operations for seven campuses across northeast Oklahoma with a total of 762 beds. Prior to that, Ms. Tucker was CFO and vice president, finance for Memorial Herman Northeast in Houston, TX.

Ms. Tucker is an innovative, strategic, and collaborative leader who will ensure Roper St. Francis Healthcare maintains a strong balance sheet, financial performance, and internal controls to enable the system to be the Charleston area leader in providing high-quality care for the people of Charleston and surrounding areas. Her responsibilities include developing and executing financial strategies, initiatives, systems, and processes that optimize current and future performance. This position also provides leadership, guidance, and direction to capital planning, financial planning, financial reporting, revenue cycle, accounting, reimbursement, and operating entity support functions through well-aligned coordination with the respective Bon Secours Mercy Health shared service leaders.
