Diversified Search Seeks Chief Publishing and Innovation Officer for Christian Publisher

May 31, 2019 – Executive recruitment firm Diversified Search has been enlisted to find a chief publishing and innovation officer for non-profit Christian publisher David C Cook in Colorado Springs, CO. Managing director Jason D. León is leading the assignment.

“David C Cook is seeking a courageous, innovative, collaborative and forward-thinking business executive to lead the Learning Resources Group and serve as a member of the leadership team as they spearhead the organization’s efforts to reimagine the future of Christian publishing,” said Diversified Search.

The Learning Resources Group accounts for $35 million of the organization’s revenue. As the group’s leader, the chief publishing and innovation officer is responsible for creating and implementing strategies that will move the publisher to the primary leadership position in providing learning resources for children, youth, adults, family and pastoral ministry in the local church, said the search firm.

The role is part of the organization’s five-person executive leadership team. The chief publishing and innovation officer oversees a team of over 70 staff members, and will have the authority and flexibility to develop and implement the organizational changes needed to improve the effectiveness of the Learning Resource Group’s mission and vision. The individual will be responsible for overseeing editorial, design, sales, marketing, customer service, new product development and production, as well as own the key financial metrics for the entire Learning Resources Group.

Job Duties

Key responsibilities include managing and maintaining strong working relationships with key Learning Resources Group personnel, the executive leadership team and key external stakeholders such as authors, content providers and leaders of church denominations and networks. The individual will also be expected to staff and lead the team to create alignment and achieve ministry growth in line with the organization’s mission and strategic goals. Delegating responsibility, working with others and coaching reports to develop their capabilities is also critical.

The chief publishing and innovation officer is also charged with working with the leadership team to complete, refine and implement a five-year strategic plan that supports the overall growth strategy for the group, focused on the local church and the local church ministry structure. They will also develop program and resource plans for projects, units and annual Learning Resources Group financial sustainability.
