Vetted Solutions Finds New Leader for NAPHSIS

June 19, 2017 – Executive search firm Vetted Solutions LLC has assisted in placing Shawna Webster as the executive director of the National Association for Public Health Statistics and Information Systems (NAPHSIS). The recruitment firm’s vice presidents Nancy Green and Evelyn Savage led the assignment.

In her new role, Ms. Webster oversees governance and business operations for a $2.2 million organization representing more than 250 members who are vital records and vital statistics professionals from 57 jurisdictions, including each state, the five U.S. territories, New York City and the District of Columbia. She will work with the board and staff to ensure that NAPHSIS’ mission is fulfilled through strategic planning, advocacy, data management systems and member services.

The Right Fit

The organization was seeking a candidate with at least five years experience in evolving areas of informatics, vital records / statistics programs, health information systems management or other closely related fields. Ms. Webster served as interim executive director for the past five months and chief operating officer for the five years beforehand.

An experienced non-profit executive, she brings more than 15 years of diverse experience in public health and managing professional membership associations to her new role. A strategic partner to the board of directors in all of her recent roles, Ms. Webster also specialized in membership and governance with the Association of Public Health Laboratories for eight years before joining NAPHSIS. She has led a wide variety of teams and programs over the years, and has facilitated and implemented strategic plans for several organizations.

“At this critical juncture, NAPHSIS needs a leader who knows how vital records and vital statistics fit into the national conversation about protecting individual identity and improving public health,” said president Lou Saadi, Ph.D. “With her broader background in public health and association management, Shawna brings new ideas, will increase visibility and be a champion for the state vital records agencies in the wide range of challenges they face.”

The future is not without pitfalls, Ms. Webster acknowledged. “NAPHSIS is at a crossroads, with a wide range of opportunities and challenges ahead,” she said. “I am eager to step into this leadership role to continue building external relationships, enhance the organization’s reputation, and working directly with the membership and the staff to strengthen and promote our products and services.”

Headquartered in Silver Spring, MD, NAPHSIS is the national membership organization representing vital records and vital statistics offices and professionals in the U.S. Founded in 1933, its mission is to provide national leadership for both vital records and related information systems in order to establish and protect individual identity and improve population health.
