Tyler & Co. Adds New Vice President

Tyler & Co. Marion Spears Karr VP

May 2, 2018 – Atlanta-based executive recruitment firm Tyler & Co. has added Marion Spears Karr, who has more than 27 years of experience in healthcare recruiting, as a vice president and senior healthcare consultant.

Mr. Karr brings in-depth experience leading successful recruitment teams that specialize in nursing leadership, C-level, vice president and senior director-level searches. He has developed a deep understanding of complex challenges facing healthcare and nursing leaders in the current market, said Tyler & Co.

Previously, Mr. Karr was president of Avery Executive Search, a talent and solutions company specializing in healthcare, as well as executive vice president for parent company Avery Partners. Before that, he was a partner with the Grad2World division of PowersKarr, a training and consulting group for healthcare, energy, manufacturing and aviation, among other areas.

Stand Up Routine

Mr. Karr was also founder of ExecQuest Consulting, a boutique executive search firm that specialized in building leadership teams in healthcare. After leading the firm for 11 years, the company was acquired by a larger healthcare talent solutions and outsourcing company, for which Mr. Karr served in several leadership roles.

He holds a bachelor of business administration degree from Campbell University and is currently completing his studies for a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Liberty University. In addition to search, Mr. Karr participates in motivational speaking, leadership coaching, individual/team development, story-telling and stand-up comedy.

Much of Mr. Karr’s success in talent acquisition and team development is because of his passion for helping others and his understanding of psychology, said Tyler & Co. Combining the two allows him to connect with and understand the needs of others, customizing a plan based on the unique cultures and missions of the clients he serves.

Having suffered a traumatic brain injury years ago, Mr. Karr is involved with several organizations that support brain injury research and recovery programs. He is a co-leader/developer for the Nurses on Board program, which prepares nurse leaders for roles in healthcare governance and boards of directors. He is also an advisory board member of the Georgia Nursing Leadership Coalition. For several years, Mr. Karr has been a member and corporate partner of the Texas Team for Advancing Health Through Nursing and is involved with several other organizations such as the Texas Team’s Rural Health Task Force, the Arkansas and Missouri Centers for Nursing and Hind’s Feet Farm.

Tyler & Co. recently announced that it is partnering with Hospital Services Corp. (HSC), a subsidiary of the New Mexico Hospital Association (NMHA). The firm said that like NMHA and HSC, it strives to improve healthcare across the board. “We make an impact in the healthcare industry by matching outstanding, well-qualified, adaptable leaders within healthcare facilities and systems, thus inflicting positive change and a powerful impact within the incessant shift of the healthcare realm,” said the firm. “The principal goal to improve patient care and increase patient satisfaction requires fearless leaders who accept the constant challenges that healthcare imposes.”

A Strong Partnership

HSC was formed in 1985 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the NMHA. Originally established to develop and offer services to the NMHA member hospitals, HSC has evolved and diversified its services to attract a broader range of healthcare customers such as health plans, physician offices and medical clinics, as well as large and small businesses outside of the healthcare industry. Customers include those based in New Mexico and in eighteen other states.

NMHA represents its membership on legislative, regulatory and public policy issues that affect citizen health in New Mexico. It is an important source for hospital data used to elicit developmental efforts and initiatives in healthcare. Its members include hospitals, health networks, ambulatory facilities, home health agencies, and a variety of affiliate groups throughout the state that make up the voice of healthcare in New Mexico.

The search firm also recently announced that it is partnering with the Colorado Hospital Association (CHA). “With common goals and initiatives and a mutual access to state and federal public policies, Tyler & Co. couples with CHA through a desire and intention to create synergy in tackling the obstacles of an ever-changing healthcare environment with a never-changing goal of providing immaculate patient care,” said the firm.

Finding Talent

CHA represents over 100 hospitals and health systems throughout Colorado. Within CHA, Colorado’s hospitals collaborate in their shared commitment to improving healthcare in the state, focusing on topics that impact Colorado hospitals and health systems. CHA’s strategic plan and policy principles include: coverage and access to care, regulatory streamlining and payment reform. A continual and primary goal for CHA is to improve quality and patient safety in hospitals and health systems across the state by offering educational opportunities, technical support and guidance on a variety of evidence-based initiatives that expand the quality of care and advance leadership’s commitment to patient safety.

Tyler & Co is the healthcare executive search arm of Jackson Healthcare. It specializes in recruiting leadership talent for healthcare, academic medicine and health and life sciences organizations. Since 1978, the firm has placed thousands of C-suite executives, physician leaders and healthcare administrators for organizations including health systems, hospitals, physician group practices and academic medical centers.
