December 14, 2018 – Turnkey Search, a subsidiary of Turnkey Sports & Entertainment, has recruited Valerie Camillo as president of business operations for the Philadelphia Flyers and Wells Fargo Center.
Ms. Camillo will oversee all day-to-day business operations of the NHL Flyers, NLL Wings, and more than 250 events annually at the Wells Fargo Center, including the relationship with the Philadelphia 76ers.
“Valerie’s proven expertise in realizing revenue opportunities and implementing strategies that accelerate growth make her the right choice to lead an exciting new era for the Flyers and the Wells Fargo Center,” said Dave Scott, chairman and CEO, Comcast Spectacor, parent company of the Philadelphia Flyers and Wells Fargo Center. “As we transform our venue into the most technologically-advanced arena in the country and the Flyers’ pipeline of young talent continues to meld with our proven stars, Valerie’s leadership will ensure that our business operations perform at peak levels and deliver a best-in-class fan experience.”
“Val Camillo is a fantastic hire for the Flyers & Wells Fargo Center,” said Len Perna, CEO of Turnkey Sports & Entertainment, parent company of Turnkey Search. “Dave Scott was extremely thorough, making sure he interviewed a wide and diverse range of top executives. Ms. Camillo also becomes one of the first female presidents in professional team sports history. Other female team presidents include Kim Pegula of the Buffalo Sabres/Buffalo Bills, Gillian Zucker of the Los Angeles Clippers and previously Amy Trask of the Oakland Raiders and Susan O’Malley of the Washington Bullets.
Ms. Camillo will relocate to Philadelphia after several high-growth years with MLB’s Washington Nationals, where she served as chief revenue and marketing officer. She has also worked for NBA Team Marketing & Business Operations (TMBO), the NBA’s in-house management consulting group. Earlier in her career, Ms. Camillo served for many years as a management consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton and IBM Global Services.
In her new role, Ms. Camillo will oversee all key business functions, including sales, marketing, analytics, technology and overall business optimization for the Philadelphia Flyers and Wells Fargo Center, one of the country’s busiest arenas.
Sports and Entertainment Expansion Elevating Search Business
Over the last 25 years, the sports sector has grown into a formidable global industry. Historically, professional sports teams operated on a relatively modest level, with league officials, team owners, managers, and coaches surrounding themselves with people they knew and trusted from their own small worlds. College sports teams relied on in-house search committees and word-of-mouth recommendations. That has all changed.
Teams with huge followings like the Dallas Cowboys, Real Madrid and Manchester United have seen their valuations soar into the billions of dollars. That’s attracted search firms – big time. Seasoned recruiters now provide strategic planning advice, in addition to talent identification services, with the capability of applying their findings to speed along the process in the hunt for talent. Here’s some further reading from Hunt Scanlon Media.
“I’m looking very forward to joining the team at Comcast Spectacor and working to maximize all the potential and opportunities ahead of us,” said Ms. Camillo. “The Flyers and Wells Fargo Center are landmark entities entering promising chapters in their respective histories, and I am thrilled to play a key role as these businesses advance.”
