McCormick Group Finds CEO for the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce
August 22, 2018 – Following a national search, the McCormick Group, an Arlington, VA-based executive recruitment firm, has placed Julie Coons as the new president and CEO of the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce. Jim Corcoran, who led the organization since 2010, recently stepped down from the role. The McCormick Group’s senior vice president Lyles Carr, managing principal Elizabeth Humphrey and principal Susy Howard led the assignment.
“After a comprehensive search process, we are pleased to have identified the best individual to lead the chamber into its next season of growth, innovation and member service,” said Jennifer Siciliano, chief communications and external affairs officer at Inova, and chair of the Northern Virginia Chamber board of directors. “We believe success for chamber members, businesses in Northern Virginia and businesses across greater Washington comes from regionally-focused collaboration.”
Ms. Coons’ strong background and experience leading diverse organizations made her uniquely positioned to represent the chamber membership and the regional business community, said Ms. Siciliano. “We are pleased to welcome Julie and are confident that her leadership, proven track record and vision for the Northern Virginia business community will complement the chamber’s exceptional membership, board of directors and staff,” she said.
Ms. Coons, who starts her new role on Sept. 10, has significant experience leading regional and national business organizations. She is currently COO of the Council of Better Business Bureaus. Ms. Coons brings to the Northern Virginia Chamber diverse experience leading regionally-focused business organizations, guiding financial and brand transformations, and successfully advocating for business in local, state, national and international arenas, said the McCormick Group. Among her many leadership roles, she served previously as president and CEO of the Electronic Retailing Association. Prior to that, she was president and CEO of the Maryland Tech Council.
