Bay Street Advisors Names Diversity Pioneer as Head of Asset Management Practice

March 18, 2020 – Executive recruitment firm Bay Street Advisors has named Patricia Muller as partner and head of the firm’s asset management practice. Ms. Muller is a well-known pioneer in diversity efforts across the industry. She will lead diversity strategy and planning efforts at Bay Street and serve on the firm’s executive committee.

Ms. Muller brings more than 20 years of experience in the asset management and financial services industry. Most recently, she was a co-founder of Westwood Distributors LLC and later became a partner in the asset management practice at Westwood Partners LLC, specializing in senior-level recruiting and advising across the full spectrum of asset management.

With the addition of Ms. Muller, the New York city-based firm will further expand its coverage across the full spectrum of financial services, including alternative and traditional asset management, global markets and investment banking.

“I am delighted to become a part of Bay Street Advisors’ highly respected franchise and am excited about the opportunity to leverage the firm’s industry-leading research team to bring best-in-class human capital solutions to my clients,” said Ms. Muller.

A Game-Changer

“Having Patricia on board will be a game changer for our firm and will enable us to better serve our clients with cutting-edge market intelligence and recruiting expertise across all aspects of asset management,” said Larry Baum, founder and CEO of Bay Street Advisors. “Patricia shares our dedication to our clients’ success and is a fantastic fit with our collaborative culture.  We welcome her to the Bay Street family and look forward to her contributions to building our firm.”

The asset management industry is experiencing massive disruption and transformation driven largely by a shifting competitive landscape and advances in technology, as many investment firms are now utilizing sophisticated quantitative analytics and techniques, artificial intelligence and data science to drive growth and innovation. Ms. Muller will work closely with Bay Street Advisors’ established alternative asset management practice to provide the firm’s clients – which include many of the most highly regarded asset managers in the industry – with highly sophisticated solutions to meet the ever-changing pressures resulting from these advancements.

As many traditional asset managers look for new areas of growth, Ms. Muller will continue to serve as an advisor, leveraging Bay Street Advisors’ track record and relationships in both the alternative asset management and private markets, said the firm. This will include hedge funds, private equity, private credit, infrastructure and real assets, to assist clients in exploring entirely new markets.

Ms. Muller started her career at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette in research. She then became a journalist and financials reporter at Institutional Investor where her role expanded to that of managing editor, executive editor and deputy editor. She managed over 100 reporters and editors globally and helped launch new businesses. Earlier in her career, Ms. Muller served as chief operating officer of Warren International, an asset management executive search boutique. She was responsible for expanding the firm and running finance, legal, administration, and research and participated in client services, marketing, recruitment, strategic initiatives and launching new ventures.

A Leading Firm

Ms. Muller has vast expertise across all aspects of asset management, including quantitative and data science mandates, as well as executing team lift-outs, buildouts and acquisitions. She holds both an MBA in international business with a focus on emerging markets and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Hofstra University.
