Tyler & Company Recruits CIO for Penn State Health

December 17, 2019 – Atlanta-based executive recruitment firm Tyler & Company has placed Cletis Earle as the new senior vice president and chief information officer of Penn State Health, a multi-hospital health system based in Hershey, PA. Search firm president Preston W. Smith, assistant vice president Charlotte Tinsley and consultant René Dodd are spearheaded the assignment.

As CIO, Mr. Earle will provide vision and leadership for developing and implementing information technology initiatives across Penn State Health. Reporting directly to the CEO of Penn State Health, he is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of all elements of the information technology, informatics, data/analytics and the health information management functions, to include leading, planning, directing, communicating and evaluating.

Mr. Earle comes to Penn State Health from Kaleida Health/Great Lake’s Health of Western New York, where he served as senior vice president and chief information officer. He provided leadership for Kaleida Health’s and Great Lake’s IT team, overseeing strategic and tactical planning, plus development and coordination of the IT platform. Mr. Earle previously served as CIO at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Cornwall, NY. He began his information technology health career as a support manager at Brooklyn Queens Health Care eventually taking on roles as director of technology and vice president, chief information and privacy officer, within the organization.

Penn State Health is $2.3 billion health care enterprise consisting of five hospitals and 57 multispecialty outpatient clinics across nine counties in central Pennsylvania. The system employs more than 1,400 physicians and advanced practice clinicians and nearly 13,000 total workforce members.

Mr. Smith brings more than 20 years of healthcare leadership experience to the firm. He is board certified in healthcare management and is a 2017 board member of the Georgia Association of Healthcare Executives. Previously, he was chief revenue officer at ApolloMD, a national multi-specialty professional medical service company. Before that, he was a private practice attorney working on an array of healthcare-related areas including hospital law, medical malpractice defense, physician practice dispute resolution, litigation, contracting and business organization. He also served as a Georgia state senator for four terms from 2003 to 2011.

Ms. Tinsley came to Tyler & Company 10 years ago. She has more than 20 years of leadership experience in human resources and retained executive search. She focuses on finding senior talent in the areas of general management (president/CEO), finance, technology, HR, sales, marketing and operations. Ms. Tinsley has a long record of managing assignments for public, private and non-profit organizations. Her projects are comprised of searches for regional, national and international senior-level executives.

Ms. Dodd joined Tyler & Company in 2014 as the office manager and administrative assistant, transitioning to consultant two years ago. Before joining the firm, she worked for 10 years at Vericom Corp., exclusively serving healthcare providers with turnkey communications solutions.
