The Barton Partnership Acquires Sailing Stones, Names Chief Client Officer

February 6, 2019 – Acquisitions continue to make big news in the executive search industry as a vehicle for growth.

The latest: The Barton Partnership, a U.K.-based executive search firm, has acquired specialist strategy search firm Sailing Stones and named its founder Ben Burney as chief client officer.

Financial details of the deal were not released. “Ben’s addition to the senior leadership team further strengthens the firm’s expertise in hiring among the strategy, M&A and transformation community,” said the firm.

In this new role, Mr. Burney is charged with helping the firm continue to deliver on its purpose, serving clients effectively, across all of the Barton Partnership’s offices and solutions, said the firm. As the Barton Partnership continues its expansion, he will be expected to ensure that delivery of solutions and attention to the firm’s clients remains unique and personal.

Mr. Burney has almost 20 years’ professional experience as well as 15 years in recruiting and executive search within the strategy and corporate development community. He has served clients across a range of sectors and geographies. As managing director of Sailing Stones for 10 years, he helped large corporates, financial institutions, start-ups, private equity and venture capital firms, to hire high-potential talent. Mr. Burney has served clients across the U.K., Europe, Middle East, Africa and South East Asia.

Recently, the firm appointed Benjamin Court as director of its Paris office. “Ben will leverage his management consulting firm experience and both his tenure and hands-on experience in the independent consulting market to provide oversight on projects and ensure high-quality delivery to our clients,” the Barton Partnership said. “He will work closely with our Paris and London-based teams to deliver a premium service on both a permanent and independent consulting basis.”

Mr. Court has worked across EMEA at the Boston Consulting Group and later at Schlumberger Business Consulting, in a wide range of industries. He then co-founded and ran a tech start-up in Paris before becoming a partner and co-founder of a second start-up focused on independent consulting in France.
