Sheffield Haworth Names Head of U.S. Operations

February 27, 2019 – Global leadership advisory and executive search firm Sheffield Haworth has appointed Penny Bushell as head of U.S. operations based in the firm’s New York office. The former hedge fund executive joins the recruiting outfit to support and streamline operations in the Americas region as the business looks to expand further.

Most recently, Ms. Bushell was VP, head of U.S. corporate services, at the U.K.-based hedge fund Winton Capital. Prior to that, she was operations manager for the U.S. at Alpinvest Partners until its acquisition in 2012 by Carlyle, where she was administration manager. She has also held roles at advisory and restructuring boutique Miller Buckfire and Spruce Investment Advisors.

In addition, Sonjay Vishnupad has joined Sheffield Haworth as managing director, corporate officers practice in New York. The corporate officers practice is responsible for supporting a range of clients including investment banks, asset managers, sovereign wealth funds, hedge funds and custodians in their talent needs across risk management, compliance, legal, operations and finance functions in the U.S. and Canada.

Mr. Vishnupad previously spent almost 20 years working for a competitor global financial recruitment firm where, as a managing director, he ran risk management and quantitative recruiting across North America and Canada. Before that, he worked as an Analyst at UBS and at Ernst & Young within the real estate division.

“We’re very excited to have Sonjay and Penny join the team,” said Julian Bell, regional managing director for the Americas. “Sonjay brings a wealth of experience across the financial services sector and is an excellent addition to our growing corporate officers practice broadening our offering to our clients in the U.S. and Canada.”

“Further to our recent investments in our core infrastructure across the business, we are delighted that Penny has come on board to lead operations in the U.S.,” he said. “Having someone of Penny’s caliber on the ground will help Sheffield Haworth to achieve greater operational efficiencies which in turn benefits our clients.”

Further Growth

In London, meanwhile, Sheffield Haworth’s consulting solutions practice has further grown by adding Ben Johnson as managing director to grow the insurance practice. He brings over 12 years’ experience in the sector and broadens the firm’s offering across financial services. Mr. Johnson was previously with Interim Partners, where he built a track record of placing executive interims and consultants at the C-suite level across some of the biggest names in the insurance sector.

“We are very pleased that Ben has joined the team,” said Tom Forrest, managing director and head of consulting solutions. “He is highly experienced and respected in the insurance sector and his appointment allows us to extend our existing offering to those clients. The team has grown rapidly over the last few months, and we are excited to offer our clients an increased suite of services across a range of functions and sectors to help them solve their talent needs in 2019.”

Sheffield Haworth Announces Promotions after Record Breaking 2018
Sheffield Haworth has announced numerous promotions across their global offices to recognize individuals’ exceptional performance and contribution to the business after a record breaking 2018. Among the 21 promotions include six new managing directors based in the New York, London and Hong Kong offices.

Sheffield Haworth has continued to invest heavily in its global capability to ensure continued expansion into key markets. This included the acquisition of Gillamor Stephens, a digital and technology sector recruiting firm, which became Sheffield Haworth’s newly created global digital and technology practice and continues to trade under the Gillamor Stephens brand.

A key part of the firm’s continued growth has been investment in infrastructure particularly across HR, marketing and operations. In recent months, Sheffield Haworth added Debbie Gazzard as head of HR and Francesca Parsell as head of marketing. The firm also said that in the weeks ahead it will hire a senior operations lead in the New York office to head U.S. operations, with further global appointments in the pipeline. “These appointments will enable the business to assess and streamline its processes and operations, achieving greater efficiencies and cost savings while developing talent acquisition and retention strategies,” the firm said.

Sheffield Haworth told Hunt Scanlon Media that this year it will continue to invest in its consulting teams across the globe in key areas, including technology, professional services and financial services, offering clients a truly holistic approach to talent and leadership advisory.
