McDermott + Bull Recruits U.S. Leader for Rayner

October 29, 2024 – Irvine, CA-based search firm McDermott + Bull recently assisted in the recruitment of Scott Corning as vice president, Americas, for Rayner, a global manufacturer of products for cataract surgery headquartered in Worthing, U.K. The search was completed by partner Jake Vander Zanden, and head of search operations Mallory McDermott.

Mr. Corning will play a pivotal role in developing and executing the company’s strategic initiatives, including driving growth and profitability across Canada, the United States, and Latin America. He will collaborate closely with the chief commercial officer to implement strategic plans, expand market reach, and execute a series of product launches including next-generation premium IOLs and capital equipment.

This appointment comes during a particularly exciting year of growth and development for Rayner, as it celebrates the recent implantation of the new RayOne Galaxy IOL in the U.S. The world’s first spiral IOL was successfully implanted in the RayOne Galaxy IOL U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) Study. If successful, the results of the study are intended to allow a Pre-Market Approval (PMA) submission to the FDA.

Mr. Corning comes to Rayner with 25 years of experience developing and driving successful brands and commercial teams within the ophthalmic pharmaceutical and medical device industries. Notably, he served as senior vice president, commercial at Ocular Therapeutix to contribute to company strategy and lead their commercial effort. Prior to that, Mr. Corning worked at Alcon in both the surgical and pharmaceutical divisions. “His breadth of experience will enable him to support Rayner’s continued focus on optimizing visual outcomes for surgeons and their patients across the United States, Canada and beyond,” the company said.

McDermott + Bull Recruits CEO for Cocoon Inc.

McDermott + Bull has recruited James R. Callan as president and CEO of Cocoon Inc., a middle-market leader in innovative corrosion-prevention solutions. This executive search was led by McDermott + Bull partner Jared Moriarty and senior executive recruiter Alyssa Camire. McDermott + Bull recently assisted in the recruitment of Brett Hamilton as chief credit officer of First Northern Bank in Dixon, NY. As the chief credit officer, he will oversee the quality and diversity of the credit portfolio, and have responsibility for ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and optimizing risk management practices at the bank. Mr. Hamilton most recently served as the senior vice president and senior credit administrator at Tri-Counties Bank where he led a team of credit analysts, commercial underwriters, and regional credit administrators.
