LHH Knightsbridge Recruits Chief Investment Officer for the Ontario Pension Board

June 11, 2025 – LHH Knightsbridge has assisted in the recruitment of Andrew Tambone as chief investment officer of the Ontario Pension Board (OPB). This search was conducted by Lisa Knight, managing partner, Nicholas Protti, executive search partner, and Melanie Barbieri, senior consultant. His appointment follows the upcoming retirement of current CIO, Chris Kautzky. As CIO, Mr. Tambone will be responsible for overseeing OPB’s relationship with asset manager, the Investment Management Corporation of Ontario (IMCO), and their investment performance to ensure OPB continues to deliver the pension promise for today’s and tomorrow’s public servants.

Mr. Tambone brings significant experience as an investment executive along with a collaborative approach to working with stakeholders to develop and manage effective investment strategies. He currently serves as VP, investments & funding at the Alberta Teachers Retirement Fund (ATRF), and will join OPB in July. Prior to his role with ATRF, Mr. Tambone was the chief investment officer at the Special Forces Pension Plan Corporation (SFPP Corp), where he was responsible for investment strategy and investment manager oversight. He also served as chief risk officer with AIMCo and held senior roles at the Workers’ Compensation Board -Alberta, including chief investment officer and head of fixed income investments. Mr. Tambone brings deep experience with direct investing, having managed fixed income portfolios for over a decade.
The Ontario Pension Board in Canada is an independent organization responsible for administering the Public Service Pension Plan, a defined benefit pension plan, for certain employees of the provincial government and its agencies, boards, and commissions. The Public Service Pension Plan (PSPP) generally covers civil servants, those employed in the Office of the Auditor General, and those required to be members by legislation or order-in-council.

LHH Knightsbridge is currently seeking a new CEO for the Ontario Energy Board (OEB). The CEO provides executive leadership to the organization, working closely with government and energy sector stakeholders. They are accountable for the efficient and effective management of the operations of the OEB and for ensuring the effective supervision of Ontario’s regulated energy sector. The CEO plays a key role in shaping the future of the province’s energy landscape. The CEO leads the Ontario Energy Board management team and is accountable to the board of directors for the delivery of the Ontario Energy Board’s mandate. The CEO oversees the day-to-day operations of the OEB and leads the development of the organization’s strategy.
Mr. Protti brings 20 years of experience in executive search, sales and business development roles across public and private sectors in the North America and Asia Pacific regions. He specializes in collaborating closely with clients to gain a deep understanding of culture and strategy to attract exceptional talent, allowing him to form long-term partnerships.
