Landing Point Launches Division Dedicated to Guiding Early-Stage Founders in Talent Acquisition

March 24, 2025 – One of the biggest challenges early-stage founders face is attracting top talent. New York City-based executive search Landing Point has launched founder services, a new division dedicated to guiding early-stage founders in strategic talent acquisition. The new offering will be led by J. Patrick Gorman, a veteran recruiting executive based in Austin, TX, who joins Landing Point after more than 20 years of advising startups globally in this capacity. “Founder services combines Landing Point’s deep expertise in executive talent placement and recruiting to help the founders of young companies attract, hire, and retain the best talent to help impact long-term success,” the firm said.

“The gap between securing series A funding and building a world-class team is where many promising startups stumble,” said Andrew Boccio, CEO of Landing Point. “Founder services isn’t about simply filling positions – we’re partnering with visionary founders to architect their organizational structure and bring in the highest-caliber talent sourced from our diverse network that will help drive their next phase of growth.”

“Imagine, you’re a founder,” Mr. Gorman said. “You have the vision, and you’ve raised a round. You have a game-changing product. But there’s a problem: hiring the right people for this next stage. It’s what stalls most startups. It’s not about spotting great profiles on LinkedIn; it’s about hiring those rare individuals with the resourcefulness, adaptability, and drive to propel the plan.”

“Most founders waste time on a problem they were never taught to solve – recruiting remarkable talent,” Mr. Gorman added. “Founder services changes that. We provide expertise and diverse resources to quickly build teams of problem-solvers, customer-focused innovators, and versatile leaders, so you can get back to disrupting the status quo.”

Prior to joining Landing Point, Mr. Gorman founded executive search firms in New York City and São Paulo, where he introduced leadership talent to high-growth companies like Nubank (now the world’s largest fintech), PayPal, and Uber. He is also the author of, “Recruit the Remarkable – A First Time Founder’s Guide to Hiring Exceptional People.” Prior to recruiting, Mr. Gorman worked for Arthur Andersen in Silicon Valley and Chicago.

“I’m thrilled to join Landing Point and help founders build teams that deliver exceptional results,” said Mr. Gorman. “We’re not just filling positions; we’re helping to build tomorrow’s unicorns. The kind of companies that define success.”

Established in 2015, Landing Point is an executive search and consulting firm specializing in the recruitment of top talent across accounting & finance, financial services, corporate services, family office, legal & compliance, tax, technology and medtech. The firm continues to expand into key cities – opening offices in Boston and San Diego last year.

Recent Acquisition

Landing Point recently acquired Roots Recruiting, a boutique executive search firm focused on legal and compliance functions within the asset management industry. With this acquisition, Landing Point is opening an office in San Diego, CA, and launching a new legal & compliance division to broaden its service offerings to clients in the hedge fund, private equity, venture fund, and proprietary trading spaces, among others. Steve Shapiro, founder of Roots Recruiting, will join Landing Point as a partner as part of the acquisition, bringing his expertise in legal and compliance recruiting to the team.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Steve and his team to Landing Point,” said Mr. Boccio. “This acquisition is a natural extension of our expertise in asset management recruiting, and Steve’s deep experience in legal and compliance placements will significantly enhance the value we deliver to our clients. The synergies between our teams will enable us to offer an even more comprehensive solution to our growing client base.”

Mr. Shapiro has over 19 years of recruiting experience, primarily specializing in legal and compliance roles that include high-profile placements such as chief compliance officers and general counsels for multi-strategy hedge funds, private equity funds, and other prominent asset managers. “The decision to integrate Roots Recruiting into Landing Point was a strategic one,” Mr. Shapiro said. “We share the same values of providing exceptional client service and building long-term partnerships. I’m excited to work with the entire Landing Point team to grow the legal & compliance division and continue delivering top talent to the asset management industry.”
