Heller Search Associates Expands Recruiting Team

November 17, 2020 – Boston-headquartered executive recruiting firm Heller Search Associates has expanded with the addition of Charley Betzig as managing director. The firm said that it has experienced a strong uptick in search activity since June and has hired Mr. Betzig to help service its growing client roster.

“Most companies have made the pivots necessary to survive in the pandemic economy, and support remote workers,” said CEO Martha Heller. “Now, they are accelerating their investments in the latest digital tools to help them engage more effectively with customers, automate processes and leverage data for competitive advantage. Smart CEOs know that success will hinge on whether or not they have the right IT leaders in place,” she said.

Mr. Betzig has spent his entire career in executive search. He joins Heller from GattiHR, where he most recently served as practice leader for the Detroit region. Before that, he co-founded boutique search firm JGA Partners. He started his career at DHR International.

“Given the pace of digital transformation that is underway in today’s economy, I couldn’t be more excited about joining the nation’s top IT executive search boutique,” said Mr. Betzig. “As leading experts on the CIO role and IT leadership, Heller Search has access to a deeper, higher quality candidate pool, resulting in superior talent for clients.”

Heller Search Associates specializes in recruiting chief information officers, chief technology officers, chief information security officers and all senior information technology positions (VPs and directors of IT) nationwide, across all industries. The firm’s clients include Fortune 500 as well as mid-market companies, private equity, higher education, non-profits and high-tech startups. Heller Search is a women-owned business enterprise certified through the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).

Recently, Heller Search recruited C- and VP-level technology executives for Tech Data, ClubCorp, Perdue Farms, Grocery Outlet, 7-Eleven, Claire’s Stores, Biogen and Thor Industries. The firm also has a large number of mid-market clients, and is working with a growing number of private equity firms to build IT leadership teams at their portfolio companies.

Recruiting Technology Leaders

Executive search consultants who specialize in recruiting IT executives say that the top professionals can dramatically differentiate a company’s offering in the market, while poorly performing ones can be the single point of failure within an organization. But there’s a problem: These same recruiters report that headhunting within the function remains hugely challenging – with a majority reporting that it is ‘somewhat” or “very challenging” to find skilled, C-suite IT professionals.

“Organizations are getting the go-ahead on more technology projects, prompting them to make strategic hires,” said John Reed, senior executive director of Robert Half Technology. “However, technology leaders continue to struggle to find highly skilled talent in a market with low unemployment. They seek IT professionals with specialized skills, especially in the areas of cloud computing, data analytics, mobile strategies and cybersecurity.”
