HealthSearch Partners Assists Holy Cross Hospital in CEO Search

June 15, 2020 – Dallas, TX-based HealthSearch Partners has recruited Mark Doyle as president and CEO of Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He starts in his new position today. The assignment was led by Ivan Bartolome, senior vice president, and Laura Conley, chief operating officer.

“Mark is a trusted leader who has spearheaded financial turnarounds, growth initiatives and quality improvements around the country,” said Rob Casalou, president and CEO of Trinity Health Michigan and Southeast region. “The Trinity Health leadership team is confident he will bolster our position as this community’s trusted health partner for life.”

Since 2014, Mr. Doyle has served as CEO of Memorial Hospital Pembroke, a 301-bed community based hospital within the Memorial Healthcare System. “His thoughtful and innovative approach to challenging issues has resulted in greater financial stability, improved employee engagement and increased access for marginalized communities,” said Holy Cross Hospital.

Mr. Doyle began his senior leadership ascent in 1996 as CFO of Kindred Healthcare Hospitals – Arlington and Fort Worth. He went on to serve as CFO with Universal Health Services’ Northern Nevada Medical Center and Wellington Regional Medical Center, as well as Ascension Health (Jacksonville, FL).

“I appreciate the confidence Trinity Health, the Holy Cross Hospital board and physicians have displayed in selecting me to be the CEO of such a reputable and outstanding organization,” Mr. Doyle said. “I am extremely excited to get started and continue Holy Cross’s commitment to high quality and patient-centered care.”

“Holy Cross Hospital and all of Trinity Health are excited for Holy Cross’ future success under Mark’s leadership,” said JoAnne Courneen, chair of Holy Cross Hospital board of directors.

Holy Cross Hospital is a 557-bed hospital that is home to the Jim Moran Heart and Vascular Center, the Michael & Dianne Bienes Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Holy Cross Orthopedic Institute. The hospital is a part of Trinity Health based in Livonia, MI. Trinity has 94 hospitals and 109 continuing care locations across 22 states.

“Holy Cross Hospital is an outstanding organization that provides critical health care services to residents in Broward County,” said Mr. Bartolome. “Their physicians are passionate about providing exceptional care.”

Serving Healthcare Organizations

HealthSearch Partners was formed in 2018 by the joining together of Dallas-based firms FaithSearch Partners and Southerland Partners and Chicago-based CES Partners. Together, the three firms have combined experience of over 3,100 managed searches including more than 500 CEO searches and represent more than 130 years of search experience. The firm specializes in identifying and placing transformational, mission-minded CEOs and senior leaders in healthcare systems.

“Health system boards now have an even better option than the customary ‘Big Four’ search firms,” said Keith Southerland, board chair, HealthSearch Partners. “Our experience gives us the unique ability to consistently identify the transformational leader mission-minded healthcare organizations need.”

“We have the unusual opportunity to access candidates who are off-limits to many large firms due to their wide range of clients and placements, enabling us to be even more selective when finding the right leader,” said Barry Cesafsky, board vice chair of the group.

“What sets us apart is that we have the level of experience and expertise of a large firm, but the speed, creativity and access of a small firm,” said Ed Fry, who serves as president and CEO of the organization. “Our clients aren’t passed on to a junior consultant after they sign. They work with senior consultants every step of the way – people who have 20 to 30 years of experience, have seen it before and can lead a search confidently.”

Well Qualified

Mr. Bartolome joined FaithSearch in 2008. He most recently served as the administrative director for cardiovascular services at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, the second largest hospital in the metro Kansas City, KS area. Before he was a hospital operations and product line leader, he served several organizations in various marketing leadership roles. Those organizations include: Shawnee Mission Medical Center, the University of Kansas School of Nursing and three hospitals in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Ms. Conley spent the first half of her career with some of the leading pediatric hospitals in the country, such as Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, focusing on quality improvement, operations and strategic planning. She is skilled at partnering and consulting with boards of directors, chief executive officers, and senior executives on executive recruitment and retention, succession planning, and organizational and leadership development.
