Greenwood /Asher & Associates Seeks Provost for Louisiana State University

May 16, 2022 – Miramar Beach, FL-based executive recruitment firm Greenwood /Asher & Associates has been enlisted to find the next executive vice president and provost for Louisiana State University’s (LSU) flagship campus in Baton Rouge. Betty Asher, co-founder, and Julie Holley, senior executive search consultant, are spearheading the assignment for the search firm.

The provost reports directly to LSU president William F. Tate IV, who serves as chief executive officer of the flagship institution as well as the statewide system, said the search firm. The provost serves as chief operating and chief academic officer for LSU’s flagship campus, the chief academic officer for all LSU campuses across the state, and the chief academic advisor to the president. The provost coordinates and consults with all chief academic officers throughout the LSU enterprise to advance the university’s overall academic programs statewide.
Across all of the state system campuses, the provost is also responsible for assisting the president in the university’s academic and research collaborations with the executive and legislative branches of state government, said Greenwood /Asher & Associates. He or she will also be charged with enhancing the university’s global presence, including leveraging existing and creating new strategic partnerships with international institutions to increase research and instructional opportunities for faculty and students, among other duties.
Articulating the Vision
The provost’s flagship campus responsibilities include articulating the academic vision and providing leadership in academic strategic planning. The provost will work with faculty, students, staff, and alumni to promote a shared vision of higher education dedicated to research excellence and exceptional student instruction. He or she will also oversee all instruction, student support, enrollment management, and research.
Candidates for the role should have a terminal degree from an accredited institution, said Greenwood /Asher & Associates. A record of academic achievement in teaching and research commensurate with appointment to the rank of professor with tenure in a discipline offered at the flagship institution is essential. Also required is a demonstrated ability to direct and advance the research functions of a major public land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant university. Prospects must have a proven record of academic achievement and administrative experience, including proven dynamic visionary leadership and innovation regarding major issues, challenges, and future directions in higher education.
