David Barrett Partners Recruits Chief Investment Officer for the J. Paul Getty Trust

March 4, 2024 – David Barrett Partners has assisted in the recruitment of Katharine “K.C.” Krieger as the new chief investment officer of the J. Paul Getty Trust. Ms. Krieger will replace James Williams, who announced his intention to retire last fall after 21 years as Getty’s CIO. Ms. Krieger was appointed after an international search, involving a search committee that included investment experts from the Getty board of trustees. “K.C. brings to us deep experience in investment management and portfolio optimization, and a proven record of success and collaborative leadership,” Ms. Fleming said. “She also has served on the executive team of one of Los Angeles’ most prominent philanthropic and arts organizations, giving her an extensive understanding of the workings of cultural organizations, foundations, and the audiences we serve. I’m excited to have her join the Getty team.”

Ms. Krieger is chief investment officer of The Broad Foundations and Family Office. She has overseen the management of over $2 billion in assets for The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation and The Broad Art Foundation, as well as the Broad family’s personal investments. Ms. Krieger has been a member of the Broad investment team for 23 years, serving as CIO since 2017. She will join Getty April 15.

During her tenure at Broad, Ms. Krieger built and managed the investment team and operations, developed and implemented an investment strategy to maximize risk-adjusted returns while ensuring access to liquidity, partnered with managers across asset classes, and led a co-investment program. Her professional involvement includes serving on the investment committee of the James Irvine Foundation, Broad Institute and BroadStage. In addition, Ms. Krieger serves on the board of trustees and co-chairs the finance committee at Marlborough School.

As chief investment officer at Getty, Ms. Krieger will manage investing of the endowment that supports all activities of Getty. Endowment earnings fund Getty’s global philanthropic operations that include the free Getty Museum and Getty Library, the visual art conservation programs of the Getty Conservation Institute, the scholarship and archives of the Getty Research Institute, and the grants issued by the Getty Foundation. The value of the Getty Trust endowment at the end of fiscal 2023 was $8.6 billion.
