August 13, 2015 – Executive search firm Calibre One has strengthened its presence in Asia Pacific with the additions of Ben Burrell as managing partner in Sydney and James Gathercole as partner in Shanghai. The search was managed by Rochelle Schumer of R&L Associates.
Mr. Burrell most recently founded tech start-up company Opp Agent. He has a long executive search career and previously led the Asia practice of Braithwaite Steiner Pretty (BSP), a boutique search (now Odgers Berndtson), based in Singapore. Prior to that, he was a practice manager at Hudson.
Mr. Gathercole, who has spent over 15 years living and working in China, works in key technology sectors, including hardware (semiconductors, solar, and contract manufacturing), software (enterprise software, data analytics, social media technologies, mobile ecosystem, M2M, and payment technologies), digital media, and business services. He was previously a partner with Sheldon Harris Consulting and before that was managing partner with TRANSEARCH Australia. Earlier in his search career he established and led Heidrick & Struggles China.
“Asia, and China in particular, is becoming one of the world’s most important markets to a great many companies,” said Tom Barnes, managing partner of Calibre One (San Francisco). “We are thrilled to welcome Ben and James to the team and we are excited to work with them to help our clients to develop their businesses in Asia.”
Notwithstanding recent fears of an economic bubble developing in China, “the county’s rapid evolution to a global financial powerhouse is creating heightened demand for talented Chinese executives as well as senior level Western executives,” said Hunt Scanlon Media CEO Scott A. Scanlon. “No other country has achieved the economic growth that China has in such a short period of time, and this is creating insatiable demand for talent. Search firms clearly are some of the primary service agency beneficiaries.”
Based in North America, Europe, and Asia, Calibre One is an international boutique executive search firm specializing in working with technology-centric businesses at all stages of development and size.
