Allen Austin Launches Evidence-Based Leadership Assessment VantagePoint

June 16, 2026 – Houston, TX-based search firm Allen Austin launch of VantagePoint, an evidence-based leadership assessment that helps organizations identify and develop high-potential leaders with greater clarity and confidence. VantagePoint is grounded in three decades of leadership advisory work and original research by Allen Austin chairman and CEO Rob Andrews. Over two years, Mr. Andrews interviewed more than 100 CEOs, CHROs, and board members to understand how organizations identify and develop high-potential leaders. The tool translates that research, together with established frameworks in emotional intelligence and personality science, into a practical instrument that helps boards, CEOs, and CHROs make better people decisions.
“Traditional leadership assessments describe personality, they do not predict performance,” said Mr. Andrews. “VantagePoint is a clarity engine. It cuts through bias, charisma, and politics to reveal the real potential hiding in plain sight, including leaders who are not always the most visible but are the most valuable.”
Allen Austin points to industry research which shows that fewer than three percent of companies effectively identify high-potential leaders. The other 97 percent rely on gut instinct, internal politics, college degrees, job titles, tenure, and candidates who fit a familiar mold. Of the more than 100 senior leaders interviewed for this initiative, only two organizations took a deliberate approach to mitigating bias and identifying high-potential leaders.
“Most organizations are guessing,” Mr. Andrews said. “They rely on titles, tenure, or who talks the loudest in meetings. That is not a management strategy. It is roulette.”
VantagePoint measures 12 validated leadership attributes, organized around what Allen Austin calls the optimal zone, which is the behavioral range in which the most effective leaders operate. The framework aligns with established psychological constructs, including the EQ-i 2.0 emotional intelligence model, the Big Five (OCEAN), and the HEXACO honesty-humility factor, and translates that science into a decision-support framework for boards and CEOs.
“By focusing on attributes such as humility, discernment, composure, and trust, VantagePoint helps organizations identify leaders most likely to deliver consistent results and build healthy cultures, qualities that traditional personality-driven tools often overlook,” Mr. Andrews said.
Sharpening Human Judgement
“VantagePoint is a decision-support framework, not a pass-fail instrument,” Mr. Andrews added. “It does not replace human judgment. It sharpens it. The report identifies where a leader’s strengths create lift, where overused strengths can become liabilities, and where focused development unlocks the next level of contribution. The goal is to help organizations stop promoting potential problems and start recognizing real leadership potential.”

Before its launch, more than two dozen industry professionals and CHROs from leading companies participated in a pilot program to evaluate VantagePoint. According to Danielle J. Alsandor, chief of staff, undergraduate college; director of development and assessment; and assistant professor of practice at the University of Texas at Austin: “The VantagePoint Leadership Assessment is an incredibly valuable resource. Unlike many tools that focus primarily on personality traits, VantagePoint zeroes in on leadership qualities proven to drive success.”
“All organizations want leadership clarity,” Mr. Andrews said. “VantagePoint gives boards, CEOs, and CHROs the data and language to develop leaders who can adapt, scale, and bring others along.”
