Storbeck Search | DSG Global Recruits CEO for the Astronomical Society of the Pacific

November 22, 2024 – Storbeck Search, part of DSG Global, has assisted in the recruitment of Hakeem Oluseyi as the new CEO of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. Linda Shore, the previous CEO, retired earlier this year after 10 years of service. Managing director Jim Sirianni led the search with senior associate Kate Phillips. “The Astronomical Society of the Pacific is excited to announce Hakeem Oluseyi, astrophysicist, award-winning author and journalist, internationally recognized STEM educator, and inspiring science communicator, as chief executive officer,” the organization said.

Mr. Oluseyi is an astrophysicist, award-winning author and journalist, internationally recognized STEM educator, and inspiring science communicator. His astrophysics research and technology development has resulted in eleven U.S. and E.U. patents. Mr. Oluseyi’s research has resulted in over 100 scientific publications including contributions to astrophysics, cosmology, and plasma physics as well as the development of space missions, observatories, and ion propulsion.

As a recent Visiting Robinson professor at George Mason University, Mr. Oluseyi taught undergraduate courses while also holding an affiliation at Princeton University, where he associated with the Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP) satellite’s science and communications teams. His research has resulted in over 100 scientific publications including contributions to astrophysics, cosmology, and plasma physics as well as the development of space missions, observatories, and ion propulsion.

As a leader and international STEM educator, Mr. Oluseyi has been space science education manager for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate as well as president of the National Society of Black Physicists. He has an impressive record of performing diplomatic missions for the U.S. Department of State in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Algeria, and South Africa. As interim founding president of the African Astronomical Society he helped establish the organization’s structure and initial funding and successfully advocated continent-wide buy-in across Africa’s diverse scientific communities and governments. An award-winning science journalist, Mr. Oluseyi has been nominated for a News Emmy and won four Webby awards. He is also a renowned science communicator and inspirational speaker.

Storbeck Search, part of the Diversified Search Group, has assisted in the recruitment of Patricia Draves as the 15th president of Monmouth College in Monmouth, IL. Julie E. Tea, Anne Koellhoffer, and Danielle Mebert led the assignment. She succeeds Clarence R. Wyatt, who has been the College’s 14th president since July 2014 and will retire at the end of this school year. “Monmouth had an impressive and deep pool of candidates who expressed interest in the presidency or were nominated for the presidency,” said Monmouth board vice chair Ralph Velazquez, who led the 10-member presidential search committee. “Dr. Draves emerged as the clear choice for the presidency, and we are excited for the future of Monmouth under her leadership.”

“We look forward to Dr. Patricia Draves’ leadership as the 15th president of Monmouth,” said Monmouth board of trustees chair Mark Kopinski. “Her groundbreaking work as a college president and academic leader, along with her track record of developing innovative student-centered programs, has distinguished her in higher education. The entire Monmouth community is excited that she is again embracing the college’s tartan as our new leader.”


For more than two decades, Dr. Sirianni has developed an understanding and a reputation in higher education. His background includes leadership roles in professional development programming for presidents, provosts, and chief business officers and teaching higher education leadership and management. Before entering executive search, Dr. Sirianni led professional development programming for presidents, provosts, and chief business officers at the American Council on Education (ACE).

Ms. Phillips has dedicated her career to furthering education by serving as an innovator and leader in executive administration across the higher education, K-12, and nonprofit sectors. Before joining Storbeck Search | DSG Global, she served higher education as the executive director of strategic planning and initiatives at Randolph-Macon College, managing a venture fund for new program development to support the academic diversification and strategic growth of the college.
