Shelli Herman and Associates Recruits CFO for Saint Louis Zoo
September 5, 2024 – Following a nationwide search, Los Angeles-based Shelli Herman and Associates has recruited Kathy Tisone as the new CFO of the Saint Louis Zoo. She will replace Cassandra J. Brown Ray who retires this month after a successful 32 years at the Zoo. Providing direction, mentorship, and support to this team, Ms. Tisone will evaluate all processes with an eye on efficiency and the broad use of technology to streamline and enhance work across the organization. Once on board, she will be expected to assess the enterprise to ensure optimal efficiency, the use of best practices, and overall operational excellence that allows the Saint Louis Zoo to surpass mission-specific objectives.
Ms. Tisone comes to the Zoo with more than 25 years of experience leading financial stewardship in non-profits. She is CFO and vice president of operations for St. Louis Arc, Inc., a non-profit serving over 4,500 people with autism spectrum disorders, down syndrome, intellectual and other developmental disabilities in the St. Louis region.
Ms. Tisone spent more than 24 years at St. Louis Arc, and said she is thrilled to join another organization focused on helping the St. Louis community. “The Zoo has always made me proud to be from St. Louis,” she said. “I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of such a beloved community resource that is accessible to all.”

He most recently served as the vice president of operations and facilities and chief operating officer.

Shelli Herman and Associates has assisted in the recruitment of Sabarras George as director for the Saint Louis Zoo WildCare Park, a $230 million, 425-acre zoo expansion project that is scheduled to open to the public in 2027. Shelli Herman, who has more than 25 years of executive recruitment experience, has a strong record of leading searches and building upper management teams for a diverse clientele, including Fortune 500 companies. She has completed senior-level assignments in many industries, including consumer products, healthcare, high technology, and finance, as well as for nonprofit, conservation, and cultural organizations. Additionally, she brings an in-depth understanding of the unique cultural environment of academia that was gained while she held significant management positions at the University of Florida and Loyola Marymount University.
