PFM Executive Search Seeks CFO for BC Children’s Hospital Foundation

February 23, 2023 – PFM Executive Search has been chosen to find the next vice president and chief financial officer for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation (BCCHF) in Vancouver, British Columbia. The non-profit raises funds on behalf of BC Children’s Hospital, the sole hospital in the province devoted exclusively to the care of children. Associate partner Jennifer Madden and senior consultant Maggie Ow are leading the assignment.

“Having recently embarked on a bold new strategic plan, BCCHF is looking for a new vice president and chief financial officer to join the foundation during a time of change,” said PFM Executive Search. “Working in close partnership with the CEO, the VP and CFO will have a clear mandate to ensure that the foundation has the operational and financial discipline to manage the business of the foundation in a manner that is considered best in class. In fulfilling this mandate, the VP and CFO will provide vision and leadership to the finance, organizational systems, and donor services teams, and will provide strategic advice and counsel to the board, CEO, and executive team.”

Key Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative, innovative, and purpose-driven CFO, said the search firm. BCCHF is looking for a change-maker who looks beyond pure numbers and sees opportunities while working in tandem with the CEO and executive team in articulating a pathway to work with key partners. Candidates must bring a track record of success as a financial executive with a not-for-profit, public or private sector organization where investment management, tax planning, regulatory requirements, board reporting, and team leadership have been key aspects of their role.

Coming into this critical position, prospects should have deftly dealt with complex financial issues facing an organization with hundreds of millions of dollars in investments, large corporate and high net worth donors, as well as a wide range of funding needs and interactions with external partners. Beyond the requisite technical financial skills and abilities, the ideal candidate will be able to operate at both a strategic and operational level, identifying critical priorities to enable the foundation to reach its ambitious goals.

As the fundraising organization for BC Children’s Hospital, the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation’s goal is to “ensure that through donor support, every child in the province has access to the best health care imaginable.” Since 1982, the foundation has been working to inspire people and communities to join its efforts to conquer childhood illness and transform children’s health care. “The generosity of donors helps change the lives of children and families today; from making new programs possible that are tailored to the medical, emotional and psychological needs of children, to purchasing the latest innovations in equipment and technology,” said BCCHF. “Donor support is also what gives families new hope for tomorrow; helping shape what child health can become by fueling research and initiatives aimed at conquering and ultimately preventing childhood diseases.”
