Los Angeles-Based Hospital Turns to Recruiter for Next CEO

October 23, 2015 – Executive recruiting firm B.E. Smith has recruited Amit Mohan as chief executive officer of Barlow Respiratory Hospital in Los Angeles.

“Barlow Respiratory Hospital was looking for a dynamic healthcare executive with the vision and strategy to continue to grow the hospital and strengthen established relationships with physicians, staff and the community,” said Laura Musfeldt, vice president of senior executive search for B. E. Smith. “Amit’s collaborative and transformational leadership style, combined with his clinical experience and financial acumen, made him the perfect match.”

Mr. Mohan currently serves as executive director for Shore Rehabilitation Institute in Brick, New Jersey. In this role he functions in a CEO capacity for a joint venture, not-for-profit rehabilitation hospital established by two of the leading New Jersey health systems. Previously, he held various leadership positions across the post-acute continuum as well as in acute care hospitals.

“Amit brings a proven track record in healthcare leadership with a deep understanding of post-acute services and multi-site operations. His dedicated focus on creating value by building strong physician and team member relationships, building an environment for high quality patient care and continuous process improvement will greatly benefit our hospital as well as the community,” said Michael Berger, chairman of the board at Barlow Respiratory Hospital. “The board looks forward to working with Amit as he leads our hospital through this rapidly changing healthcare environment.”

Barlow Respiratory Hospital, a not-for-profit, long-term acute-care specialty hospital, is one of the nation’s top healthcare providers for patients with respiratory and other complex illnesses. As Barlow enters its 113th year of service, it continues its legacy as the only not-for-profit, long-term acute-care respiratory hospital in Southern California with locations in downtown Los Angeles and satellite facilities in Van Nuys and Whittier, CA.

The global healthcare industry is in the midst of a turbulent transformation, making the need for proven and experienced boards and executive teams with vision more important than ever. To meet these growing needs, B.E. Smith expanded its services with the launch of a post-acute services division this past summer. The firm has placed increased focus on meeting the leadership needs of inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation facilities, long-term acute care hospitals (LTAC/LTCH), skilled nursing centers, as well as home health and hospice agencies. Alyson Cutshall serves as vice president of post-acute services.

In addition, B.E. Smith recently named Cathi Blise as vice president, leadership advisor for the firm’s interim leadership and advisory services division. An accomplished healthcare executive with more than 35 years of clinical experience, Ms. Blise leads a number of interim and consulting executives nationwide who focus on providing leadership solutions for B. E. Smith clients. She supports healthcare providers in Wisconsin, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Utah and Idaho.

B.E. Smith has recruited a number of CEOs for other leading healthcare organizations, including Yuma Regional Medical Center in Victoria, TX; West Holt Medical Services in Atkinson, NE; Coquille Valley Hospital in Coquille, OR; and Regional Health in Rapid City, SD. Founded in 1978, the firm is a full-service leadership solutions firm for healthcare providers.
