Leveraging AI to Drive Business Development in Executive Search

Artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly important business development tool for executive search firms as recruiters look for better ways to identify opportunities and strengthen client relationships. An upcoming webinar supported by Hunt Scanlon Media and featuring Ren Systems will explore how purpose-built AI can help search firms improve timing, personalize outreach, and gain greater leverage from their existing networks.ren

September 15, 2026 – AI is beginning to reshape how executive search firms approach business development, moving the process beyond traditional account lists and periodic outreach toward more continuous market intelligence. By helping recruiters identify meaningful changes across companies, leadership teams, and professional networks, AI is creating new opportunities to engage clients with greater relevance and better timing. The challenge for search consultants is using those tools to strengthen relationships and surface opportunities without allowing technology to replace the judgment and personal connection that remain central to winning new business.

“AI is shifting business development from searching to sensing. Instead of periodically working through a static account list sending quarterly check-ins, AI can continuously watch the market and your network for changes such as leadership moves, funding, M&A, and job postings, and tell you where there’s suddenly a reason to engage,” said Canay Deniz, co-founder and CEO of Ren Systems, an AI-powered relationship intelligence platform designed for executive search and professional services. “That makes timing, not just access to information, the competitive advantage.”

“We might be slightly biased, but we think the biggest impact is in relationship management, specifically deciding where your attention belongs and how to add differentiated value to each conversation,” Mr. Deniz told Hunt Scanlon Media. “AI-generated emails with no review or personalization are easy to create which means they’re both saturated and noticeable. When everyone uses AI carelessly in communications, the second-order consequences create both a challenge and a massive opportunity for business development leaders. Em dash or not, we’ve all developed a radar for AI generated emails and comments. You immediately stop reading, mark as spam, and mentally excommunicate the author. That is creating a lot of room for thoughtful business leaders to differentiate with AI, using it to build long-term relationships rather than trying to put them on autopilot.”

Use AI to prepare the conversation, not replace the conversation, Mr. Deniz explained. “Let it do the research, pattern recognition, monitoring, and preparation in the background so the consultant can spend more time doing the uniquely human part: bringing a point of view, making an introduction, picking up the phone, and being genuinely useful,” he said. “Again, the goal isn’t to automate relationships. It’s to automate everything that gets in the way of relationships.”

The best signals are the ones that create both relevance and a reason to act now, according to Mr. Deniz. “Leadership changes, executive departures, funding or M&A, expansion into a new market, major product or strategic announcements, hiring patterns, and even changes elsewhere in your relationship network can all create that opening,” he said. “The value is connecting those signals to the people you actually know, rather than consuming more news or doomscrolling LinkedIn. Ren’s approach is to monitor large volumes of news and data, overlay them on your network of existing relationships and targets, and continuously surface actionable moments.”

“The winners start with the problem they’re solving, not the technology,” Mr. Deniz continued. “They optimize for outcomes, not activity by using purpose-built AI that understands the workflow and brings the right context and data by default, instead of asking every consultant to become an expert prompt engineer. The firms that win with AI don’t necessarily use the most AI. They use AI to create the most leverage.”

Upcoming Webinar

Join Ren tomorrow for an interactive webinar supported by Hunt Scanlon Media. The session will focus on deploying AI to differentiate your firm and boost business development productivity. According to Hunt Scanlon’s recent report on how AI is reshaping executive search, 91 percent of respondents already use general-purpose AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude. Only the most forward-thinking firms have yet deployed integrated capabilities engineered specifically for business development. In this webinar, we’ll focus on the benefits of widespread adoption of purpose-built AI to leverage context, proprietary data, and built-in prompts to unlock greater ROI and capabilities.

This a great opportunity to hear first-hand from some of the key players in our industry. They will share valuable insights into best practices for responding to and deploying AI at your firm. The conversation will be moderated by Mr. Deniz.
