JobSerf Employment Index Improves in February

March 4, 2012 – The CareerCast.com/JobSerf Employment Index, which measures managerial recruitment activity online, gained 12 points in February increasing 23.7 points from a year ago. Detroit (+19 percent), Cleveland (+16 percent), Louisville (+16 percent) and Milwaukee (+15 percent) were the big winners this month. Houston (+11 percent), Philadelphia (+12 percent) and Washington, D.C. (+10 percent) also had double-digit gains. In California, San Diego remained stable but losses were seen in Los Angeles (-seven percent), San Francisco (-five percent) and Riverside (-five percent). Baltimore also had a five percent loss in hiring activity. “Hiring expectations are on the upswing and the demand for talent remains competitive,” said Tony Lee, publisher, CareerCast.com. “The gloomy employment picture is starting to brighten, even amid economic uncertainty. However, managers may need to broaden their skills by acquiring additional training or education to remain employable.”
