Dallas and Cincinnati Showing Job Growth in January

January 31, 2013 – The CareerCast.com/JobSerf Employment Index, which measures managerial recruitment activity online, increased 2.2-points in January showing that hiring has slightly rebounded from major dips in new, white collar employment during November and December. At 99 points, the index is above its January 2012 mark of 95. However, the current mark is below the level of two years ago – 103.7. The two bright spots in January were Dallas with an increase of seven percent and Cincinnati with an uptick of five percent. Double-digit decreases in hiring were seen in Cleveland (-11 percent), Detroit (-10 percent), Chicago (-10 percent), and Miami (-10 percent). “The impact of the budget battle was strongly felt in hiring at the start and middle of the month,” said JobSerf CEO Jay Martin. “With a change of politicians, and total obscurity as to where the budget negotiations will lead this year, there is a lot of instability in the hiring markets.”
