Carrington & Carrington Seeks Top Medical Officer for Planned Parenthood

June 5, 2018 – Chicago-based executive recruitment firm Carrington & Carrington has been selected by Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) to find its next chief medical officer.
The CMO serves as the authority on quality and clinical care across the organization, said the search firm. The individual is charged with ensuring that Planned Parenthood’s medical standards are highly reliable and are followed consistently by all affiliates. The CMO is also expected to evaluate developments in medical care and make recommendations for new practices and procedures. Advising the organization’s leadership on matters impacting patient care is also a key part of the job.
“The CMO serves as a visionary, strategic thinker, and national thought leader on clinical issues, both in the Planned Parenthood setting and the field of women’s health broadly,” said Carrington & Carrington. “The CMO will help PPFA focus on system administration and will help move PPFA forward in a clinical setting and as a network of healthcare providers”
A Patient-Centered Approach
The person who holds the job will be responsible for the overall clinical direction of Planned Parenthood, said the search firm. What’s more, the CMO is responsible for advancing care for women across the globe. The individual must have proven ability to lead transformation and to challenge the non-profit beyond its current structure and embody a patient-centered approach to care.
The CMO role calls for providing guidance and feedback to a wide range of Planned Parenthood staff about issues related to clinical care, including standards and practices both within the organization and in the field of women’s health. The individual is expected to review strategies and materials, participate in discussions, and provide a strong medical and clinical perspective.
For long-term projects and extremely short- term needs, the CMO is responsible for providing expertise, guidance and feedback to Planned Parenthood teams on externally – facing work . The CMO also serves as the primary medical liaison on items related to medical service delivery to other Planned Parenthood teams, including policy, advocacy , communications, general counsel, litigation-law, brand, partnerships and online.
A Range of Duties
Among other responsibilities, the person who wins the job must also serve as a spokesperson for the organization on medical issues in a variety of venues reaching a range of audiences, including media , video/multimedia content , speaking engagements , conferences, legislative briefings/testimony , written submission and events.
Candidates should have more than ten years of directly-related, progressively responsible experience as a physician with experience in management, project management and supervision, said Carrington & Carrington. They should also have expert, up-to-date medical knowledge, particularly in health care delivery systems. And they must be a board-certified physician. An ob-gyn is preferred for the job but it is not required. Strong system experience in lieu of currently practicing obstetrics and gynecology is required. A background in primary care, women’s health, population health or public health sector will be considered.
