TM² Executive Search Tapped by Wiley University to Lead Provost Search

July 23, 2024 – TM² Executive Search (TM²), a subsidiary of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), has been retained by Wiley University to lead in its search for a provost and vice president of academic affairs. Dakota Doman, managing principal, is leading the assignment along with Amanda Washington Lockett, principal and senior consultant. This leadership position is essential for guiding the university’s academic strategy, ensuring the highest standards of education, and fostering an inclusive, research-driven, and student-centered environment.

The provost generates academic programs/initiatives that strengthen the competitiveness of our value proposition. Leading units in academic affairs, this role designs and inspires robust, dynamic activity that generates measurable outcomes. The Provost interacts with various stakeholders, including corporate and government, to inform initiatives that increase enrollment, course offerings, and policies.

Candidates must have a terminal degree and at least seven years of progressive leadership experience in academic affairs. In addition, the ideal candidate will have a record of scholarship, research, grant acquisition, and teaching experience in a university setting. TM² Executive Search notes that candidates must have a demonstrated understanding of the accreditation process and record use of assessment for continuous improvement is required for consideration.

Preferred candidates should have 10 years of leadership experience in academic affairs and experience in developing graduate programs, mapping new pathways for enhancing the academic enterprise, and demonstrated experience in developing new academic centers.

Wiley University (formerly Wiley College) is a private historically black college in Marshall, TX. Founded in 1873 by the Methodist Episcopal Church’s Bishop Isaac Wiley and certified in 1882 by the Freedman’s Aid Society, it is one of the oldest predominantly black colleges west of the Mississippi River. Wiley University offers bachelor’s degrees through four academic divisions. As of January 2024, Wiley will offer master’s degrees in three fields of study.

He has served as an executive administrator, academician, strategist, policy analyst, governmental relations liaison, and researcher. Dr. Doman has presented over 75 presentations across the country on various higher education topics related to HBCUs, organizational leadership and change management, talent acquisition, and student success.

Dr. Doman has served as a consultant, chair, or search advocate for over 50 executive searches in higher education throughout his career. He has coordinated executive searches at all levels of administration including president, provost, CFO, CTO, and chief student success/enrollment officer. He has considerable search experience in governance and policy organizations for State Higher Education Executive Officer (SHEEO) agencies such as the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board where he completed five executive searches.

Dr. Washington Lockett has served as a strategic advisor to the presidents of two Minority Serving Institutions and most recently served as a Strategist for the Institute for Capacity Building (ICB) at the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). In this role, she developed strategic priorities and initiatives  that improved the sustainability and institutional outcomes of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), including the publication of a 2024 report in partnership with Prudential Financial and PGIM, researching the endowment performance, institutional capacity, and  perspectives of endowment professionals from nearly one-third of all private HBCUs.

In 2016, four former black college presidents launched TM² Executive Search. The firm is the brainchild of former black college presidents John Garland (former president of Central State University); Sidney Ribeau (former president of Howard University); Wayne Watson (president emeritus of Chicago State University); and Dorothy Cowser Yancy (president emerita of Johnson C. Smith University & Shaw University).
