JDG Associates Seeking CEO for The National Board for Certification and Occupational Therapy

February 9, 2024 – Rockville, MD-based executive search firm JDG Associates has been selected by The National Board for Certification and Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) to lead in its search for a new president and CEO. The assignment is being led by Paul Belford. NBCOT seeks an executive with a grounding in health care issues and policy. A fast-paced style is needed to help set a direction, hold the organization’s focus, and work closely with the board and senior staff team in seeking and identifying new opportunities. Proven leadership is being sought with a direct approach to communications and an ability to execute decisions in a vigorous, effective manner. The position offers a unique opportunity to an executive able to combine transformational leadership with a servant-leader mindset that has been key to NBCOT’s success over the past decade and more.

This executive will provide inspired leadership and example in creating an environment that demands extraordinary performance, positivity, transparency, and collaboration across service lines, resulting in a work product that is worthy of the NBCOT brand. They will work closely with the board of directors to keep it apprised of emerging issues and trends affecting the profession, NBCOT, and their likely impact on the strategic planning process. The CEO will also be alert to opportunities for board consideration to improve, enhance, or expand service offerings to further the protection of the public interest.

The preferred executive will be a dynamic, highly credible, and visionary leader with demonstrated success in previous leadership roles. They will have experience developing and implementing strategic plans and creating systems to set goals, assign responsibility, and measure and report impact.

The right candidate will bring a strong track record in fiscal management, cash flow management, financial reporting practices, and general accounting principles. They should have proven strengths and success in representation and advocacy roles, excellent communication skills, and demonstrated success serving as spokesperson.

The University of Tennessee – Oak Ridge Innovation Institute Taps JDG Associates to Find New Leader
JDG Associates has been retained by the University of Tennessee – Oak Ridge Innovation Institute (UT-ORII) to find its next executive director and vice provost. This executive serves as the senior leader responsible for the oversight of the institute’s vision, management, and operations, as well as for the development, planning, and implementation of strategies to ensure enduring success and impact. Emphasis is placed on strengthening collaborative research opportunities and impact, and on advancing graduate education prominence jointly with UT’s colleges and Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s directorates. As vice provost, the position is responsible and accountable to University of Tennessee, Knoxville provost on sole academic matters at UT.


Darren DeGioia serves as president of JDG. He conducts senior-level search assignments for research and consulting organizations as well as the public sector. His areas of expertise include information technology, accounting and finance, the quantitative sciences, operations / general management, marketing, and communications. Prior to joining JDG, Mr. DeGioia spent four years in the hospitality industry with the Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and Sheraton Hotels.

Mr. Belford has completed nearly 300 association searches, mostly at the CEO level. A professional search consultant since 1990, Paul joined JDG Associates in 1993. His clients have ranged in size from regional and state groups with staffs of ten or fewer to national organizations with budgets up to $75 million. Mr. Belford has worked with trade associations and professional societies from a wide range of service areas including heavy industry, information technology, finance, healthcare, engineering, government relations, communications, finance, and administration. Mr. Belford has also served on the CEO Advisory Council of the Greater Washington Society of Association Executives, as well as on three of their compensation survey councils.
