SRI Executive Search Names Global Sustainability Partner

December 12, 2016 – Ireland-headquartered SRI Executive Search has named Yvo de Boer as a partner and senior advisor in global sustainability. For SRI, the appointment marks a further commitment to the international development sector. With the addition of Mr. de Boer, SRI will assist organizations as they juggle the demands of ‘relevancy,’ the issue of ‘sustainability’ and an organization’s ‘fit for purpose,’ according to the search firm.

Climate Change Specialist

Dedicated to addressing the issues of climate change, Mr. de Boer has spent much of his career focused on the economics of sustainability. Believing that the biggest barrier to climate change around the world is inconsistency in policy, he has assisted policy makers at both a governmental and corporate level to understand the consequences of acting, or failing to act, in economic terms.

Advocating for an approach that combines the economic interest of nations with environmental concerns, Mr. de Boer said he has committed himself to helping countries formulate programs which are low-carbon and energy efficient.

Throughout his career, Mr. de Boer has created a platform which has allowed climate change issues to gain the international recognition they deserve by demanding greater political and media attention. He brought over 100 world leaders to Copenhagen for international climate negotiations in 2009 and secured commitments from over 90 countries to reduce greenhouse emissions.

From 2014 to 2016, he served as director general of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), a treaty-based International organization with 28 member countries, to develop and implement green growth strategies. Before this, Mr. de Boer served as KPMG’s global chairman of climate change and sustainability services.  Before joining KPMG in 2010, he led the international process to respond to climate change in the role of executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) from 2006 to 2010.

Prior to his UN role, he was extensively involved in European Union environmental policy as deputy director general of the Dutch Environment Ministry. He also served as vice chair of the U.N. Commission on Sustainable Development, and acted as an advisor to the Government of China and the World Bank. In 2011, he was appointed as chair of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Climate Change.
