ALBANY, NY, August 3, 2017 — The New York State Economic Development Council (NYSEDC), and global executive search firm DHR International, are pleased to announce the placement of Ryan Silva as Executive Director. Ryan was unanimously confirmed by the Board of Directors of NYSEDC during a statewide conference call today. A national search for the Executive Director was conducted by David Smith and DHR’s Economic Development Practice Group.
Ryan has been confirmed as the Executive Director and will assume his new role on August 21st. Brian McMahon, who will retire in September, has done a remarkable job leading the organization for the past 17 years and is highly regarded throughout the State. Ryan will bring to the NYSEDC his passion and expertise for economic development and his commitment to communities across the state.
Ryan is a graduate of the College of Saint Rose with a major in Public Communications and a concentration in History and Political Science. He most recently served as the Director of Government Relations, State Relations at the University at Albany. His responsibilities included strengthening University relationships with the local, state, and federal delegations, and positioning the University to access resources needed to expand its strategic vision. Prior to joining UAlbany, Ryan worked for Empire State Development as Vice President of Regional Economic Development and Director of Economic Development and Government Affairs for the Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce. He currently resides in Brunswick, NY with his wife, Sandra and three children.
“We are thrilled to have Ryan join us as the Economic Development Council looks to the future,” said Steve Hyde, President and CEO, Genesee County Economic Development Center; and, Chairman of the New York State Economic Development Council (NYSEDC). “Ryan will have huge shoes to fill given the retirement of Brian McMahon but has proven skills and experience and a record of accomplishment for planning and executing complex statewide transformation efforts that have had positive results. Those experiences give me deep confidence that he will be highly successful leading our statewide economic development association forward into the future.”
“I am grateful and excited to serve as the new Executive Director of the NYSEDC. Under Brian’s leadership, the organization has accomplished many great things for its members, leading the way for effective economic policies and more vibrant communities. I look forward to working with the executive committee, board of directors, and membership to continue improving the economic climate and quality of life across New York State,” Ryan said.
