University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine selects Harris Search Associates to lead Chair of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Search

DUBLIN, OH, January 10, 2018 – University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine has selected Harris Search Associates to lead its Chair of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery search.

Established in 1892, the School of Dental Medicine (SDM) continues to educate general practitioners, specialists and biomedical scientists in the art and science of oral health through its comprehensive accredited programs:

The SDM is located on the university’s South Campus, home to most of the other health professions schools comprising the Academic Health Center.  The School is currently in the midst of a $25 million-dollar renovation of its pre-clinical and clinical facilities.

The University at Buffalo is the State University of New York’s largest and most comprehensive research-intensive university and is its primary center for professional education and training. We are Middle States Commission on Higher Education accredited and a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU). The University at Buffalo was recently selected by the NIH to receive the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) and SPHHP is an active participant in that award.

UB seeks an entrepreneurial Chair of the Department of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) with a strong record of excellence in academic leadership and scholarly activity including peer-reviewed extramurally-funded research and enthusiasm to grow the Department’s academic and research programs.  One of seven departments in the School of Dental Medicine, the department is charged with providing education and training to pre-doctoral dental students and is responsible for the OMFS Residency Program as well as proving instruction as needed to other clinical specialty programs.

The next Chair of OMFS will have a history of dedication to strong educational programming, an excellent record of clinical service, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.  The Chair will be a departmental leader who will collaborate with members of the SDM faculty, the University community, and the teaching hospital’s staff.  She/he will advocate and foster high quality academic, patient care, and research programs, encourage and value community outreach in dental care, support faculty success, build strong relationships with constituents, grow philanthropy, and participate in the well-established clinical practice plan.

He/She must possess superior communication skills, political adeptness, entrepreneurial energy, and an ability to represent the School externally to local, national, and international constituencies.  The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of department programs, including education, program accreditation, high-caliber, diverse faculty recruitment and retention, clinical practice development and outreach, and development of educational and clinically relevant research programs.

The Department Chair will work closely with the Dean’s leadership team and faculty to strengthen and expand clinical and educational programs to support both the academic and clinical missions of the university and its partners.  She/He must be committed to nurturing programs and departmental faculty activity.  The Chair will have dedicated time for administrative, educational, strategic and research initiatives.
