Texas Tech Name Deedee Brown-Campbell as Senior Associate AD for Academic Excellence

LUBBOCK, Texas – In collaboration with TurnkeyZRG, Texas Tech Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt announced Wednesday the hiring of Deedee Brown-Campbell to his executive staff as Senior Associate Athletics Director for Academic Excellence.

“We’re excited to add an experienced administrator such as Deedee to oversee our academic services unit,” Hocutt said. “Over her career, Deedee has built a strong reputation as a talented administrator who truly cares about the student-athlete experience. We are pleased to welcome Deedee, her husband Marcus and their children to our Red Raider family.”

Brown-Campbell arrives at Texas Tech following 10-plus years at Big 12 counterpart Baylor where she most recently served as Associate Athletics Director for Academic Services. Brown-Campbell had oversight of the entire academics unit at Baylor, while also serving as the primary sport administrator for acrobatics and tumbling and the secondary administrator for track and field.

In her new role, Brown-Campbell will direct the staff at the Marsha Sharp Center for Student-Athletes, overseeing all academic support for Texas Tech’s more than 400 student-athletes as well as the NCAA eligibility process. She is expected to begin her tenure with the athletics department on Aug. 1.

“I am so thankful for the opportunity for my family and I to become a part of Red Raider Nation,” Brown-Campbell said. “We are excited to join a university, department, administration, coaches and staff that are dedicated to the athletic and academic success of Texas Tech student-athletes.”

A former student-athlete, herself, Brown-Campbell joined Baylor in 2010 as the Director of Student-Athlete Services before receiving a promotion to Assistant Athletics Director in September 2013.

Brown-Campbell joined the Baylor staff from her alma mater, Arkansas, where she worked in academic support from 2004-10. Brown-Campbell was an Assistant Athletics Director for women’s academic support from 2004-08 prior to the combination of the men’s and women’s athletics department into one unit in 2008. During that time, she oversaw the academic support process for each of the Arkansas women’s programs. She later served as the academic advisor for the Arkansas men’s basketball and women’s golf programs and also served as the coordinator for diversity initiatives.

Prior to joining the professional world, Brown-Campbell was a standout track and field athlete for the Razorbacks, garnering All-America honors in the outdoor heptathlon twice during her career (2000, 2002) while claiming three SEC individual titles. Her efforts on the track earned her an induction in the Arkansas Sports Hall of Honor in 2015 as well as the state of Arkansas Track and Field Hall of Fame that same year.

She earned her undergraduate degree in kinesiology from Arkansas in 2002 as well as a master’s degree in sports management in 2004. She and her husband, Marcus Campbell, a fellow Razorback student-athlete in football, are parents to a son, Chase, and a daughter, Camdyn.

Brown-Campbell is a current member of the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) and Women’s Leaders in College Sports. She is a 2008 graduate of the NCAA Leadership Institute for ethnic minority males and females.

Brown-Campbell replaces Greg Glaus, who departed the university in May to accept the position of Senior Deputy Athletics Director at his alma mater, Kent State.
