Playfly Sports Hires WNBA COO Christy Hedgpeth

(Nov. 17, 2021) Playfly Sports has tapped WNBA COO Christy Hedgpeth as President of Playfly Sports Properties, a position she will transition to in early December. Hedgpeth will oversee Playfly’s 30+ high school, collegiate and multimedia rights properties with responsibility for driving strategy, operations and growth. Some of Playfly’s notable college properties include LSU, USC, Maryland, Michigan State, Auburn and others. Hedgpeth will be based in N.Y. and report to Playfly COO Craig Sloan. David Johnston previously held the president role at Playfly, which has a staff of about 150 people. TurnkeyZRG handled the search for Playfly.

Sloan was named to the COO role in September, while Playfly also hired Geoff Kalan as Chief Strategy Officer. Sloan said of Hedgpeth, “We had a pretty specific need of looking for someone who has proven to be innovative in their careers, and when you combo Christy’s student-athlete past (a former Stanford basketball player), her passion for this space, and her career arc, she became the clear choice and an easy one.” Sloan: “There’s going to be plenty of opportunity for Christy to exhibit that collaborative impact she had at the (WNBA).” On what attracted her to Playfly, Hedgpeth said, “How focused on transformation and innovation they are. And those two things have really been threads throughout my career.”
