MOBILIZING A TALENT EDGE FOR PRIVATE EQUITY

Kristen Baldwin CEO.works Senior Partner and Chief People Officer – Selecta Biosciences Sumeet Salwan Co-Founder – CEO.works

Selecting and allocating great talent to a critical role is one thing. But a significant risk to value sits just outside the talent match. It is embedded in the context of the expected work and the design of the role itself. Mobilization is the process of capturing the value “discounts” hidden in each transformation. In this effective presentation, Sumeet Salwan, co-founder of CEO.works, and Kristen Baldwin, CEO.works senior partner and chief people officer at Selecta Biosciences, assert that new rules, new tools, and new routines are required for a modern, effective approach to talent. They will examine cutting-edge tools and methodologies that are designed to pivot human capital interventions from process excellence to value creation. It is a modern playbook purposely built for PE firms seeking a talent edge.

Identifying and Developing Non C-Suite Roles That Have an Outsized Impact on Value Creation

Moderator: Jennifer Perry Managing Principal – FMG Leading

Private equity investors understand the importance of assessing and developing C-suite talent. But often, non C-suite roles within an investment can have an outsized impact on value creation. This panel of private equity and human capital experts will shine the light away from the C-suite and focus instead on ways to identify critical and potentially overlooked non-executive roles that have a disproportionate impact on company performance, and how to diagnose the quality of talent within these key roles. In addition, panelists will review best practices around developing scalable talent playbooks that improve quality and accelerate performance within crucial non C-suite positions.

Driving Growth & Value Through Effective Leadership

Introduction by: Ahmed Nassef Vice President, Talent & Partnerships – RevelOne Nicole North Partner, Executive Talent – Lightspeed Venture Partners AnnaRose Hughes Director of Consumer Talent – Lightspeed Venture Partners

Leadership and organizational factors play a tremendous part in a company’s ability to deliver on its growth thesis. In this following presentation, Nicole North, partner of executive talent and AnnaRose Hughes, director of consumer talent at Lightspeed Venture Partners, will discuss how they execute and deliver on Lightspeed’s growth thesis and will reveal their playbook of key talent drivers such as effective leadership, DE&I, and culture that are critical in accelerating value creation.

Managing the Dark Side in Portfolio Executives

Moderator: Scott Gregory CEO – Hogan Assessments

We all have experienced them – executives who are brilliant, driven, highly skilled, and experienced but who also have some significant personality and interpersonal flaws that make them difficult to work with and for. Research shows that on average 65% of leaders fail because of these flaws, while about 65% of Americans surveyed say they would rather fire their boss than receive a pay raise. The fallout of flawed leadership on teams and productivity is significant, causing turnover, damaging engagement, and sometimes ruining companies. This panel of PE talent and executive search experts will discuss how they screen for flaws during the due diligence process, how they help leaders manage those flaws and develop better skills, and how they evaluate the tipping point between the positive contributions leaders make and their potential to negatively disrupt a company’s talent pool.

Fireside Chat: Ensuring Optimal Portfolio Company Talent Strategy and Alignment Around the Investment Thesis

As private equity firms continue to invest in the portfolio company talent function, there is a race to identify the optimal operating model and key best practices that will drive value. The cornerstone of any portfolio company talent strategy should be ensuring alignment between talent partner and investment team throughout the investment lifecycle. Anchored in the perspectives and experiences of the investment team, the talent partner, and the assessment firm, they will share case studies of how aligning and assessing talent, beginning in the due diligence phase, has been an underwriting differentiator that has driven real value in their firm.
