Odgers Berndtson Launches Interim Recruitment Business in US

January 27, 2020 – Odgers Interim, the interim recruitment services division of London-based executive search firm Odgers Berndtson, has launched in the US. Odgers will initially roll out the offering in its Boston and New York offices.

Odgers Berndtson was founded in 1966, and supports a wide range of industries with services in executive search, board search, executive coaching and development, industry mapping, and leadership advisory. The company’s 250+ partners have specializations across more than 50 sectors.

Today, Odgers has 61 offices in 29 countries. The consulting firm expanded into the US in 2011, and now has 14 offices stateside.

In 1999, the company launched Odgers Interim, an interim recruitment division which makes c-suite and director-level placements. The division has offices in the UK, Canada, Brazil, and Australia.

Now, owing to high demand from clients for experienced leaders that can be brought in at short notice, Odgers Interim has launched in the US. Odgers said there is increasing demand for senior interim leadership in almost every industry and function, including strategy, corporate development, HR, finance, supply chain, marketing, IT, and cybersecurity.

There is a particular need for interim CFOs because of intense demand for senior financial expertise, as well as notable sector demand in private equity, financial services, and healthcare.

Odgers announced that Odgers Interim US will be led by Paul Smith, a former UK client partner. Smith will manage the initial rollout of the offering in Boston and New York, with a goal of expanding further in North America in the future.

“An accelerated pace of business and a pressing need to manage significant levels of market disruption in the US is driving both large and middle market companies, as well as other professional institutions including healthcare, to seek highly-experienced senior leaders who can parachute into organisations on demand,” Smith said. “These professionals are increasingly sought after because of their hard-to-find expertise in areas such as transformation program delivery, M&A and carve-out work, and as ‘steady-hands-on-the-tiller’ to manage functional leadership vacuums.”

Odgers will offer interim managers as a standalone service, as well as in conjunction its permanent executive recruitment service.

The expansion arrives at a time of significant growth for Odgers Interim, which booked $65 million+ in revenues in FY 2019 – an increase of 53% since 2014.

Steve Potter, CEO of Odgers Berndtson US, said, “As one of the only top six search firms in the US with a dedicated interim capability, Odgers US is thrilled to gain this key competitive advantage. Our nationwide network of clients across 14 offices can now draw from Odgers Interim’s global pool of interim managers.”
