Marlin Hawk To Support The Prince’s Responsible Business Network

LONDON, April 7, 2016 — Leadership advisory firm Marlin Hawk has backed Ready for Work, a programme run by Business in the Community (BITC) that helps disadvantaged people find work through coaching, work placements, support networks and work clubs, all of which are underpinned by the support of business volunteers.

BITC is one of The Prince’s Charities, a group of not-for-profit organizations of which The Prince of Wales is President. It is a business-led charity with more than 30 years’ experience of mobilizing businesses to work together in making a fairer society. Since its inception in 2001, Ready for Work has supported 9,000 people, of which 3,700 have successfully gained employment.

Several members of Marlin Hawk’s staff will be volunteering as Career Coaches in the City of London. A Career Coach provides one-to-one support, advice and motivation to help participants find a route into employment and a lasting path out of social exclusion. Participants may be homeless, care leavers, have unspent convictions and/or lack qualifications. The role of the Career Coach is to help them apply for jobs, prepare for interviews and to build their confidence and resilience. Each Career Coach will obtain an ILM Level 3 qualification in Coaching and Mentoring to aid their personal and professional development.

BITC’s research shows that Ready for Work provides £3.12 in benefit to society for every £1 invested. By helping people to improve their lives through employment, savings are created for the taxpayer through reduced costs of homelessness, crime, benefits and healthcare. This amounts to over £3.2m of benefit over 5 years for every one year’s investment in the programme.

Jonathan Hime, Group Managing Partner at Marlin Hawk, said: “Charitable giving and community involvement are a very important part of working life at Marlin Hawk. We are passionate about nurturing talent and are proud to support BITC’s Ready for Work programme by helping disadvantaged people make a life-changing transition into sustained employment.”

Lauren O’Leary, Head of Employee Volunteering and Employability at BITC, said: “Thanks to support from the staff of firms like Marlin Hawk, we’ve seen more than 40% of participants on our programme secure employment over the last 5 years.  We are delighted that Marlin Hawk are helping us create a fairer society and would encourage others to follow their lead.”
