Malcolm Fraser Appointed President and CEO, Innovacorp

Halifax, Canada, August 30, 2017 — Knightsbridge Robertson Surrette is pleased to have assisted Innovacorp with the appointment of Malcolm Fraser as the organization’s new president and chief executive officer.

The following is an excerpt from Innovacorp’s release, August 30th:

Mr. Fraser has been a leader in Canada’s digital sector for the last 20 years, earning recognition and awards for innovation, management and community leadership.  He will begin his new role October 2, 2017.

“After an extensive search which generated interest from across Canada, we’ve landed a fantastic new leader for Innovacorp,” said Rodney Burgar, Innovacorp’s board chair. “Malcolm is an entrepreneur, through and through. He’s built and led a technology company and he’s hustled to acquire clients and raise capital. Recently he led his company through a successful acquisition by a national company. Malcolm joins us at an exciting time as the startup ecosystem in Nova Scotia expands.”

Mr. Fraser started ISL Internet Solutions Ltd., later rebranded as MODE, in 1995, and grew the company to be Atlantic Canada’s top digital agency. ISL coached many businesses through digital transformation including Stanfield’s, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Tourism Nova Scotia. In 2016, ISL was acquired by Vancouver-based digital marketing agency FCV Interactive and Mr. Fraser joined the firm’s executive team.

“I am very excited about this role,” said Mr. Fraser. “I’m eager to dive in, get to better know all the players in our start-up ecosystem and strengthen Innovacorp’s contribution to the community.”

The Nova Scotia native has a bachelor of commerce in marketing and economics from Mount Allison University. He is board chair at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, research committee chair at Destination Canada, a board member with the Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation and Sobey Art Foundation, and past chair of ITANS, now Digital Nova Scotia.

Mr. Burgar extended the board’s appreciation to Stephen Duff, who served as Innovacorp’s president and CEO since 2013.

“We’re grateful for Steve’s strong leadership over the last four and a half years,” said Mr. Burgar. “He delivered on all of our strategic goals, including recapitalizing Innovacorp’s venture capital fund, partnering to create COVE and deepening our expertise and delivery of startup incubation services and acceleration programs.”

Innovacorp is Nova Scotia’s early stage venture capital organization. It works to find, fund and foster innovative Nova Scotia start-ups that strive to change the world. The goal is to help those companies commercialize their technologies and succeed in the global marketplace.
